| Soundtracks can be great. One of my particular favorites is Hans Zimmer, the German composer who did sountracks to, among others, Gladiator, Pearl Harbor, MI-2, Blackhawk Down, Crimson Tide, and The Rock. Awesomep orchestral pieces - he knows how to get emotion into it.
Pirates of the Caribbean sounded like it had a good soundtrack, too, though I don't know who did it.
Lord of the Rings was rather disappointing, listening to the CD. |

| There are some tracks on the LotR soundtrack that are worth the purchase. Reading your signature, I must guess that you have seen Tears of the Sun.

| Actually I haven't. I heard the line here at the Academy and firmly believe in it; I just wish I could remember who it's attributed to.
Yes, Lord of the Rings has some good tracks; I love "Concerning Hobbits". "Aragorn and Arwen's Theme", from the beginning of one of the tracks, also appeals to the hopeless romantic in me. The rest, however, is pretty disappointing - not nearly so rich, or powerful, as something like "The Battle" from Gladiator, or perhaps "Elysium". |

| Yes, the love theme from the original was breathtaking. I listen to a fare share of Enya and that is still the most beautiful track I have ever heard of hers.
Have you ever heard the soundtrack to Excalibur? The music in this soundtrack is very moody and great in my opinion.
I watched Tears of the Sun only last night. At the end of the movie, your quote was flashed across the movie screen. Not a terribly bad movie, certainly a rehash of a simular plot and script, but oh well.

| Never heard that soundtrack, but yes, Enya has some good stuff as well.
And then, you gotta love Five Iron Frenzy. Really helps to be Christian when listening, but if not, they've still got some songs that don't have a real message to them, and hey - it's tough to beat good ska. |

| Edmund Burke (1729 - 1797) - a philosopher about life and politics. Commented extensively on the French Revolution and the American Revolution.
I've got the quote hanging on my wall, and that's who it is attributed to on the print, anyway. |

| Soldier & D'Art,
Enya, well, I liked her first 2 CDs, there after, she became very formulaeic and absolutely bereft of soul and spirit. Her music have now become a musical tapestry, all pretty and airy but there's nothing behind the notes.
Listen to some of Vengelis' early stuff esp. his "Opera Sauvage" as well as Jean-Michel Jarre's stuff, they have a lot more life in them.
Music should be able to arouse passion, emotions not just a musical backdrop.
Talking about formulaeic music, I absolutely detest John Williams' works. Unfortunately too many directors/producers in Hollywood think he's "IT".
Anybody but John Williams.

| Heh, if you think John Williams' film scores are bad, I hope you never have the misfortune of having to listen to any of his "serious" music...echh. |

| Film scores are the classical music of today. ( The bulk of the stuff that passes for actual "classical" is just so much academic onanism. ) |

| There are many good modern classical music. Try Arvo Paert [that is P umlaut A rt].
He was born 1935, I think he's still alive.
His music may be a bit funereal, but still quite listenable. [Unlike Enya's latest.]
This is not new, but these were the popular music of its time:
Gilbert & Sullivan's operettas.
The Knowledge Network in Canada is doing their fundraising night using G&S pieces.

And I like its lyrics, also. I tried to translate them onto Hungarian without using the English transscript, but I gave it up... |

I remember seeing somebody else's name at the end of the credits, and I haven't seen any credits for it to him on websites. |

| QUEEN Queen rocks! Almost anyone can find something they like! They've done rock, soft rock, mock opera, classical-ish, old pop, tecno, and genre: Queen. Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen is the #1 song of all time in the Guiness Book of World Records! John Deacon (bass player) never wrote a song that wasn't a hit! And last but not least, the Beatles are the only other band to ever get more hits than Queen!
