[CFML] Spanish rapier seminar and fencing lecture in California!

Fellow sword enthusiasts,
I am pleased to announce that the Humboldt State University Fencing=20
club will be bringing Maestro Ramon Martinez to Arcata California for=20
weekend of historical fencing, October 10 through 12.
Maestro Martinez, Master of the Martinez Academy in Manhattan and=20
founding member of the International Masters At Arms Federation, will be=20
giving a lecture and demonstration on classical and historical fencing=20
at 6pm the evening of Friday, October 10. Maestro Martinez will speak=20
about traditions in the Western martial arts, with demonstrations of=20
several styles of European swordplay from various countries and time=20
periods, and will shed light on some of the myths surrounding European=20
martial arts. This lecture is free, open to the public, and should=20
prove informative and interesting to long-time fencers as well as those=20
who have never held a sword, and there will be time for questions from=20
the audience.
On Saturday and Sunday, October 11 and 12, Maestro Martinez will=20
also be teaching a two day advanced workshop on Spanish Rapier fencing. =
=20
This workshop is designed to improve and refine the skills of those=20
individuals who are already familiar with the basic concepts and=20
techniques of la Verdadera Destreza, the true art and skill of Spanish=20
rapier fencing. This is not an introductory course, so all participants=20
are expected to be familiar with the proper methods of gripping the=20
weapon, the stance, footwork, proper distance (medio de proporcion),=20
walking the circle, the engagement (atajo), simple attacks by thrust and=20
cut, parries (desvios), and the movimiento estra=F1o. Anyone planning to=20
attend this seminar must have previously attended at least one of=20
Maestro Martinez's weekend seminars or master classes on Spanish rapier=20
OR have watched the Destreza videos and performed all of the exercises=20
therein OR have attended rapier camp. Please be sure to practice your=20
basic techniques again before coming to the seminar; we will not hold=20
the entire class back to for the sake of one or two unprepared=20
individuals, so be ready to take your fencing to a higher level!
The price of the seminar will be $120 for those who send in their=20
registrations by October 3. The price for those registering after that=20
date or at the seminar itself will be $160, if there is any room left.=20=20
This will be a small seminar, so if you plan to attend please send in=20
your payment and registration form as soon as possible in order to=20
reserve your space!
Please print the form below, complete all information, and send the=20
form with your check or money order to:
