    [foil] is a one-lighter ..

    ..always getting the point?

i had the following situation some time before: i fenced a guy bigger than me with longer arms. when i made an attack and lunged, he jumped back (body parry). but while jumping, he extended his arm and hit me in my lunge. [a strange move, but easy to deal with when you know it]. because he was out of my reach then, he got the light (and my coach said, it was ok). but what was it? stop hit (but in my final move!).. i would think so now. or can you do a riposte while you parry?

    Attack NO counter YES.

You could call it a stop hit although technically it wasn't.

It sounds like you want to learn time thrusts to me from the last question.

His move is far more familiar in epee, where there is no right of way.

Your opponent is using better control of distance and knowledge of the timing of your attack to make you fall short on your attack while the counter attack hits.

It's a one-light action, so he gets the point. The key to dealing with that is to shorten up your steps, feint commitment to the attack and then parry his counterattack with another step forward and then hit with lunge.

While his action doesn't have right-of-way per se, it really doesn't matter since you're not hitting him.

    Cheers,

    Mar98,

D'Art is right, that's a typical epee counter attack.

    ATTACK: No
    COUNTER-ATTACK: Yes.

OTOH, if your attack had landed, it'd still be your attack.

Don't you hate those tall, skinny guys?

It's worse when epeeists fence sabre. At least now, with elec. sabre, the hand is no longer target, it is better:

One comes fwd with a proper sabre attack, they scounter with point to the hand - how can they resist it with all that target visible - and with sabre's almost non-existent time delay, they get the hit. The best thing a sabreur can do is to finish the attack and whack them hard esp on the arm.
