    Fun with Archetypes

Veeco gave me the idea for this one with his comment about the Musketeers in the "what kind of fencer are you".

Ok, the object is to list three different characters/people/etc that have something in common (movie, book, profession, etc.) and what they are likely to choose as their weapon of choice (and why if its not overly obvious).

    For example:

    Star Wars:

    Obi-Wan Kenobi: Foil
    Darth Vader: Epee
    Luke Skywalker: Sabre

Obi-wan (original, ep.4) was quiet, direct, sublime, and the quintessential guru/teacher. Suited for foil imho.

Darth Vader: Hey, he cut luke's hand off at the wrist. Definitely epee. Heh.

Luke Skywalker: totally sabre. He is always swinging his lightsaber around like a madman and rushes into things without thinking much.

    Yoda: Director, obviously.

How about Dracula, Wolfman, and the Mummy? The Three Stooges? Madonna, Britney, Christina? Papa smurf, Brainy, Smurfette? Politicians?

Dang it, obviously a sabre fencer - at least under the old rules for target area!

But, he used calculated moves unlike the rushing of sabreurs.

Okay, sure, fine - but he does that heavy mouth breathing sound, just like a sabre fencer.

Hey, who says the rushing ISN'T calculated?

The Mummy...with that foot work, he's gotta be an epee guy.

Is there a 600+ year-old Veteran Epee event? The Mummy would have to be at the top of the points list.

Dracula, I'm thinking, would be one of the first to use the Lexan shield masks. Keeping the eye-domination thing going...

Politicians would have to be épée. They just stand there and do nothing.

Obi-Wan is a thinker, hence epee fencer.

    Three Stooges = sabre

Howard Dean and Bush, sabre. Dean because he runs his mouth, therefore aggresive, bush because he's an idiot. He was obviously hit over the head too many times.

Madonna, Britney, etc, foil fencers - prissy and concerned with appearance.

    Heh

    Moe Foil

Obviously the smartest of the bunch, and has a very direct personality. Get in, get the touch, take a bow.

    Larry Epee

Almost as smart as Moe. Probably the most analytical of the bunch. Usually waits for an opening before going in to attack (opening usually being Moe being distracted by Curly).

    Curly Sabre

Gives as good as he gets. Shaves his head with sabre, oblivious to pain, and has no qualms about charging right into a fight.

    Shemp

Newbie. Needs to work on his footwork and keeping the hair out of his eyes. Not allowed to "gear up" or engage in swordplay yet.
