Array Reality TV I don't usually watch reality TV, unless I'm bored. But what I would watch is fencing reality TV. Cameras on the strip catching the fencers trash talk each other just out of ear shot of the director as they return to the en garde lines. Cameras off the strip watching fencers complain about directors and trying frantically to wire a weapon they bought that morning.
Now that would be fun, but i'm not too sure how many non-fencers would understand. -

Array hmmmmmm Not much of a response on this thread. I wonder why?
Maybe, its becuse nobody really wants to think about what they
say and do when they are well below their best behavior.
Remember: the "Taxi Cab Confessions?" Now that! was a strange
show. -

Array I simply don't understand the attraction of "reality" TV.
If I wanted to watch people having romance traumas and doing stupid stuff and swearing incoherently about stuff that doesn't really matter to anyone else, I'd turn off the TV and watch the goings-on in my own house.
I watch TV to get away from that. Why would you turn it on just to watch someone else's mundane existence? Isn't your own enough for you? Nothing is more frightening than ignorance in action. -

Array I concur I dont like it either Loch. The only one that was actually funny
was "Taxi Cab Confessions" on HBO. The rest is usually society at its
worst with little humor. Unless of course you consider a real live fight between married couples funny. I dont see all the attraction of "Survival"either.
Its probably best for some of us just to live reality and not watch
it.

Hi!
snip below by me. Originally posted by arcon I dont see all the attraction of "Survival"either.

arcon I donīt know about the rules for the usa version of "Survival", but in the orginal (Swedish state television, "Robinson"!) the rules are changed each year, and usually are made so that they present a real challenge to the competitor who tries to win. In just about any sport, even really bad competitors - or even casual onlookers - can in theory figure out how to win. The challenge is actually doing that, and preparing yourself so that you can do it at competition.
Robinson takes this a level further. The starvation and competitions are diffucult enough in their own right. When you throw in the issues of how to vote so as to get an as few and unimportant enemies as possible, which events to mask your capability in so that you will not be voted out early as a threat, then the whole thing gets really complex. It can be thought of as a real-life exercise in game theory, which to me is quite an attraction - more so than looking at scantily cald women on beaches.
Sort of like chess where the rules are changed at irregular intervals, and neither player knows beforehand, or how. Add in starvation, and it is really good to figure out a gameplan.
Then there are the rest of the docu-soaps, but most of them have gone for the bubba viewership by dumping in generous amounts of alcohol, bad sex, etc. and dumbing down the rules. Not fun.
Have a nice time!

Array Hah, but does "Robinson" use a modified ELO scoring system? This is the really critical question. -

Array I can respect I can respect and see the effort, and preparation that goes into
partisapating as a competitor in "Survival". Its a little bit of everything in life amplified a hundred times. Competition,Politics,
Mental and physical skills, etc.
I dont care for it although i can still respect it. Thats as objective as i can be. I draw the line though when they start eating insects. Thanks for the info. Every day is a good day to learn
something.
