Fencing in Eastern Europe

I've been fencing for only a year now but I may have to stop breifly. I am going to be leaving for Bosnia in about two weeks and I am curious if there any fencing clubs in Bosnia or the surrounding area (Croatia, Trieste (Italy), Serbia) etc.

I plan on bringing my fencing gear over with me. I'm doing a NATO peacekeeping tour and I am told I may have alot of time off and will be travelling often.

Are fencing clubs in Europe open to the public and foreign fencers? Are there any in Bosnia?

I typed in Bosnia Fencing in Google and this is what i got:

Captain J.T. Galuga

Weapons Site Fortifications
Sat, 16 June 2001

Hello all!

If you've been reading these journal entries regularly you will remember that SFOR took over certain weapons storage sites as mentioned in the SFOR press release (see journal entry of 17 May 2001). We have recently been involved in working to improve fortifications at these weapons storage sites.

The existing security at the weapons storage sites was mediocre. 2 Section did a fantastic job fencing and laying obstacles to enhance security, working well into the night. We were assisted by a section from our colleagues in the north. The concertina wire fencing and fluorescent barriers certainly make an imposing sight.

Sorry wrong type of fencing.

Maybe you may meet Captain J.T. Galuga there.

And immediately underneath that:

Cannot find this page...That said, it's obvious that some of your counterparts there do fence.

What's the N rating of an Army flak jacket?

Take care in Bosnia,

The article referenced above can be viewed using the cached version on google. It happens to be an article (from 3 years ago) about a fencing.net member, Mergs, who is no longer overseas but last known to be bouncing between DC/NoVA, Texas and this web site

Here's a link to a cached version:

As for the original question about fencing in Bosnia and environs, I'd imagine Mergs could have some good leads.

(btw pkt, the proper short form of address for Lt Col. is Col, not Lt.)
