Array They STILL don't "have to". They choose to, in order to save their precious careers, power, influence, reputations, whatever.
I would have had immense respect for Bill Clinton had he only said, when the press first started asking questions, something along the lines of "We're here to discuss the nation's business, not sniff about for the whiff of dirty laundry. If you want to ask legitimate questions about the former, please do so. If you insist on doing the latter, there's the door, and I'm sure there are plenty of other reporters who could put your White House press credentials to good use. Who's next?" ( I'm sure his speechwriters could have phrased it much better, but you get the idea. )
Instead he wagged his finger under our noses and lied through his teeth. The easy way out, for a politician. But not the best way, for him, for the press, or for any of us. And still they all continue to go for the former. -

Array He committed PURGERY. It had nothing to do with who he slept with. Any other person would have been tried for committing perjury. I mean how can we trust a guy who would lie under oath. -

Array Originally posted by afc fencer Yes but if the president commits perjury then i care. If only the State of the Union Speech (Nigerian Uranium and all) had been given under oath! Array I think "PURGERY" has something to do with regurgitation, doesn't it? I don't think I'd like to see THAT on prime-time TV. Oh, wait, you mean perjury? Never mind. . . -

Array Maybe it's just me, but much of the President's speech appears to fall under the "regurgitation" level of speech.
Or perhaps I'm just thinking of a gag reflex. "Sometimes we, as coaches, get into that dictator mode where you just tell and you don't listen and you don't try to understand them." Tom Izzo, Mich. St.

Array In that case, it's us committing "purgery," ain't it?
I've given up watching his speeches because I can't take the shouting. My husband's, that is. At the TV. Similar Threads -
