    Death.

Apart from what others mentioned and I thought of as well, such as expense, the jarred wrist from the beat attack and the thing you missed, cour a cour. That is unruly fencing violence such as use of the knee, bad for boys!

Ultimately with consideration to others it is the accidents involving snapped foils. One unprotected boy at Gosford NSW was lacerated across the kneck and sadly they couldn't stop the bleeding. Lord have mercy.

From a coaching viewpoint, the things I hate most about fencing are: (1) Children who come to classes, but then refuse to fence, or who always say, "Can't we play more glove-tag?!" and it's the instructor's burden to make fencing "exciting." (2) The phenomenon where groups of fencers stand around (for hours) talking. Some of them never put on a jacket. Sometimes they talk about how fencing isn't taken seriously. A big part of fencing is talking, but sometimes it gets excessive.

    Things I hate about fencing...

The fact that I'm awful at it, but can't seem to quit.

Not having started many, many, many years earlier.

    Mean Fencers.

Getting beaten by kids all the time.

Mean kid fencers who beat me all the time.

Not having enough adult fencers to go to the bar with.

Fencing parents (not the one's at our club, thankfully) who say things like "I didn't pay all this money to bring you out here to see you lose" to a kid who just came in fourth at a national tournament.

...and finally, idiots who say things like "Fencing? That's not a real sport, is it? I mean, it's not a team sport..."
