Whale Rider

What happened to my original thread? It dissaparated!

Er, anyways....

I have two words for this movie. Amazing and beautiful. Go see it. NOW. SCRAM. RUN FOR YOUR NEAREST THEATRE.

Has anyone on here seen this movie? I loved it. I also sobbed for half of it, the most I've cried in any movie, lol, and I never cry in movies. BTW, if you're worried, it isn't a depressing, all ends badly movie. It's very uplifting.

Mo, I think you would like this one.

Start of the synopsis, not to give anything away:

In a small New Zealand coastal village, Maori claim descent from Paikea, the Whale Rider. In every generation for more than 1000 years, a male heir born to the Chief succeeds to the title.

The time is now. The Chief's eldest son, Porourangi, fathers twins - a boy and a girl. But the boy and his mother die in childbirth. The surviving girl is named Pai.

Grief-stricken, her father leaves her to be raised by her grandparents. Koro, her grandfather who is the Chief, refuses to acknowledge Pai. But her grandmother, Flowers, sees more than a broken line, she sees a child in desperate need of love.

The old Chief is convinced that the tribe's misfortunes began at Pai's birth as he searches in vain for the new chief to lead the trible.

Anyways, that's not the half of it, but anything else will give much more away. Have fun guys, I just wanted to share this movie w/ you.

que, we had the same problem with a few threads in Fantasy Land. What I got out of Craigs explination (in a simplified manner) is that basicly the system will give itself a spring cleaning everyonce in a while and make sure everything is working. Now when it's going through the process of spring cleaning if someone is posting at the same time as it's cleaning it takes that thread that the person is posting on as dirt that must be swept away, therefore it sweeps. (or it throws that thread in the trash thinking it's bad info) Roughly translated.

i saw it, and i thought it was a little long, but a good movie overall. that grandpa was a punk! i am surprised it was not in more theatres. i know it was a fairly small movie, but i thought after the excellent reviews it received it would have been redistributed, like "my big fat greek wedding". oh well.
it makes one wonder how stupid movies stay in the big theatres for a while, and the better, smaller ones are shunted off to the side. speaking of bad movies...
i was in the tape store the other day, and my eyes fell upon a video called "delta delta DIE". (sniggering) isn't that title a riot? i think it is about killer sorority babes. something that calvin and hobbes would want to sneak off and see!
