Array Acetone? What''s a good indicator that it's time to replace the acetone in my copper pipe? It still dissolves the super glue very well in a short time, so I don't think it's losing potency. It's also turning green, but I think that's from the copper itself.

Array I'm thinking you shouldn't bother replacing it until it doesn't do the job anymore.

Array I don't think that it is a case of loosing potency. Acetone is not a blended solution. I think that it may get displaced by all the gunk and evaporate, and that may make it take longer to do the trick. So, depending on how much you use it, I'd just get rid of it every month (if you use it alot). My, 2 cents. -

Keep in mind that just dumping acetone down the drain isn't exactly kosher (though I doubt that the police would come round and give you a ticket). To properly get rid of it you'll need to take it to some place that can handle chemical disposal (some local Depts. of Public Works can handle it).

One or two other folks mentioned replacing the acetone, though. Not that it wouldn't be an OK idea, just make sure that the old stuff can be disposed of properly.
