Hi Jeffry--
Welcome aboard..I believe that you will find this website both interesting and informative, regardless of the depth in which you intend to pursue the Classical Fencing genre... some individuals/groups get into it for artistic expression, exercise, and fun, while others may add the dimension of fully correct historical accuracy and replica weaponry to the theme... there is something in it for everyone, it seems!
I, too have read Maestro Nick Evangelista's book on the "Inner Game of Fencing", and I found it to be very well-written and informative, not to mention interesting. As you get deeper into the material, you can appreciate the 'Martial Arts' approach he has taken, a much needed journey into the many reasons to fence, and to fence properly. He captures some of the psychological aspects involved, and compares the importance of both form and substance to that found in other martial arts such as Aikido, Karate, etc.. All in all, a very unique approach, and a very welcome one indeed, particularly where there are already substantial numbers of "How To" books on the physical "nuts & bolts" of our art.
Right off the top of my head, I'm not quite sure how far you are from Ithaca, New York, but if you are interested in further pursuit of Classical Fencing in depth, you may want to contact Maestro Adam Crown in Ithaca. His organization is called "In Ferro Veritas" (roughly translated from the Latin, "Truth in Steel", or "In the Sword is Truth"). You can pick up his website link from
www.classicalfencing.com, or by using one of the search engines. You will also be able to obtain some substantial information from this website, as well as event information; i.e., dates, times, and places of events with a Classical/Historical flavor. Hope this has been helpful.
Regards,
Warren Cabral,
Fencing Instructor

Hello all,
My name is Jeffry Larson and I am new to this forum. My experience with classical fencing is limited but the more I find out about it, the more I want to learn.
Unfortunately, living in the middle of nowhere-in-particular, Watertown, NY (Northern NY State) makes this somewhat difficult. That's why egroups such as this and other internet resources are very helpful. I look forward to further discussion of classical fencing topics here.
Here's one: I received a copy of the book "The Inner Game of Fencing" by Nick Evangelista for Christmas. I've just barely started it but so far it has my interest. Anyone else have thoughts about this book that they would like to share?
Jeff
