Welcome aboard, James, the honor of acquaintance is mutual, I'm sure. Since joining the website, I have found that there are some very stimulating conversations about the practical concepts found in classical/historical Fencing, much well-thought out information to be shared for all at virtually any level of interest in 'real' swordplay (including event locations), and, of course, a far better forum for expressing what Fencing is really all about, than that provided in the 'sport/game' venue erroneously called "Fencing" nowadays. Back some 25 years ago when you mentioned you were involved in the 'sport' aspect, there were still some realistic techniques that could be identified as Fencing movements to some degree, but sadly, that has all changed. I think that you will really enjoy the repartee and benefit from the more pragmatic Martial Arts viewpoint found among those contributing to this website. Again, welcome!

I am honored to make your acquaintance. Twenty-some years removed
from sport fencing, and having since done little more than ogle and
fondle real swords, I am resolved to acquire some knowledge and
skill in the conversation of steel.
I disremember the speaker, but it has been observed that one who has
a sword but cannot fence is like one who has a pen but cannot write.
Cheers.
