Does he make them any faster?

Last time he made one for me it took about 12 months.

Well, there he does have something of a reputation but for me it took a
little under three months. I have heard some horror stories though. Having
said that I heard of one smith so slow that a guy he was making a suit of
plate for ended up doing a 200 mile round trip in his car each day to stand
over the snith talking.

Two weeks later the perfect suit of plate was completed.

To Mr Hand i have to say hmmm, must admit to being surprised that use a cup
hilt - of course if it's the real thing it's the real thing but are you
saying it's a replica? Or conveniently at that length?

And how are you working out the length of sword for Saviolo? Is it from the
pictures?

Cheers Bob for the links.

Al

I worked out the length from the pictures. This gave me 41" which is the
same length I get from Capo Ferro and Thibault's ideal measurements, so it
strikes me as a good number to go with. My rapier is a pretty spot-on
replica of an original in the Royal Armouries. English cup hilts are quite
different to the better known Spanish ones. I also have a swept hilt from
c.1590, but I don't find that my style changes between the two weapons.

Cheers
Stephen
