The ultimate fencing bag for two-wheeled travelers?

Does any enlightened being know of a good way to transport gear + sword on two wheels? The current bag I have is falling apart, and my bicycle commute has just gotten longer.

I'm looking ideally for a cylindrical bag with a shoulder strap that is adjustable and doesn't bite. I'm going through traffic so it should be fairly compact. Finally, I need space for the additional stuff...mask, vest, shoes etc.

Your advice is more appreciated than you can imagine!

I have a rather extensive commute to the fencing club, including the busiest subway stations at rush hour - I've found that the best thing for me to do is to pack most of my stuff in a backpack, and then put my weapons into the zip off weapons bag from my big Allstar one. You might want to find a better bag that doesn't flop around as much for your weapons (has anybody tried those field hockey stick bags perhaps?) but the backpack works very well in pretty much any situation.

Hey thanks for the feedback...I have been thinking about a hybrid solution like that. My one concern: you must need a fair-sized pack to get your mask, knickers, vest, shoes, etc. into. Do you routinely carry all that gear? No problems?

    Motorcycles & Fencing

I commuted several months on a bike with my fencing gear and found that the best was an old backpack that I modified a bit.

Basically I cut a small whole in the bot6om corner. I would put all of my gear (the bare minimum of course) and then have the weapons in the pack with the point ends pocking through the bottom and the blade running diagonally through the pack with the handles outside the pack on the upper opposite corner.

Not only did it work but I got all sorts of great stares from people. Even a few people locking their doors or rolling up their windows when they saw "a guy on a motorcycle with swords."

    Good luck,

    Cheers

You could just wear your fencing jacket, knickers, vest, ect. on your way there, then have a bag made for just weapons and put it on the back of the bike- it might work...

I just have the basic kit stuffed in there (Mask, tee shirt, socks, cup, shoes, underarm, knickers, jacket) - it fit into a backpack i had lying around the house, but now that i look at it, the bag is on the larger side, so i got lucky. Good luck with finding the solution and hey, at least you get a nice warm up on the bike!

ulhamm I think i that is the right spelling, but the company is fairly famous, sell a rucksack specifically for fencers that does work, it has bottom which has a enough room to fit a mask, and for the weapon, it has an extension coming from the toop of the so as to protect and totally cover the weapon. I have only found this particular bag directly from them. But be warned those carrying a large amount of gear count use it it is only for a moask two weapons and the rest of the basics, but no more.

    I hope this helps,

If there is a significant amount of gear that you are thinking of transporting, try one of the tow behind kid trailers, and modify it for your gear. The other alternative is to put a second strap on a conventional fencing bag and fit so that the bas of the bag is in the lower part of your back. Just suggestions, as I don't ride in heavy traffic.

One guy at my old fencing club would always come on a bike. He has done a fairly extensive customization in order to be able to carry 2 weapons, his mask, as well as the rest of his equipment on it.

What he has done is that he has 2 PVC pipes cut to the length of his blades attached to the rear of the bike, as well as a mannequin head screwed on top of one of the PVC pipes.

In the PVC pipes he stores his weapons, fastened at one end with a strong sandow. On the mannequin head he puts his mask.

Next he's got 2 bags on the side of the back wheel where he puts his jacket, knickers, shoes, etc.

And I think he doesn't wear any back pack.

Apparently some people do honk at him in traffic, but he makes it through to fencing twice a week, whether it rains or shine.

I wish I still was at this club, I would be able to take a picture of the bike. Those who know who I am talking about might be able to.
