People who bend over backward to politely ask that we "flame in private" should be publicly flogged and driven from the community strapped to the high horse they rode in on.

That's hippie, not yuppie. A yuppie is a young, urban professional. I think you are not an American because that's a well-known slang term and you've used Yuppie instead of hippie a couple of times.

Array The Catal Guide to Debate: Chapter 1
When arguing against a republican and you have nothing but "emotions" and "feelings" to base your views, but no logic, your best technique is to demonize your opponent. Associate nouns such as conservative or republican with negative adjectives without any support to the claim.
**Edit**
This tactic need not necessarily be used against people with conservative views. Anyone using logic or business sense is free game with this tactic.

Oh, boy. Another Republican. Anyhoo, you can go back and read my other threads. They may be laced with insults, but I always supply evidence to go with them. That's more than can be said for the likes of Republicans, Democrats, or Green Party Hippies. To not recognize the power of the propane torch is to be in denial. -

Array Republican or not, I have read your posts and, judging from the reactions of smarter persons than myself, you do not support your insults or views with logical data. None the less, I do notice both on the forum and on TV that often times a liberal person's preferred tactic is to demonize his opponent. Calling me a Nazi because of a conservative view, not a reactionary view, is hardly a valid point in my opinion. ... without remorse for the past, confident in the present, and full of hope for the future, [d'artagnan] went to bed and slept the sleep of the brave.

Array well this technique of demonization is used all over the world by by every pol party and trade unions leaders...some exemples for both sides:
ie:
- "maybe we should do somehting to prevent strikes in hospitals or police station by instauring minimum service hours during
strikes, because it s real nuisance for the comunity" (guess which country i m talking about)
- answer from teh basic trade union: you re a FASCIST, you want to get rid of our right to strike
ie:-
- "maybe, there s an altenative to war"
- hippie pussy
ie:
- "an intervention in this country that arbor terrorism might be inevitable"
- "you re crazy, war is horrible, what are you? a nazi"
ie:
- "there s too much crap on TV, no ethics"
- "you right wing bastard wnats to censor media...where s our freedom of speech"
ie:
- "drilling in alaska can have terrible consequences on the region and on the world"
- "this is green hippie bull****, drilling is worth exterminating useless seals"

Array D'Art,
That quote was really from the "Guide to Political Debate." The book continues on in the next pargraph:
"When arguing against a democrat and you have nothing but "emotions" and "feelings" to base your views, but no logic, your best technique is to demonize your opponent. Associate nouns such as 'liberal' or 'democrat' with negative adjectives without any support to the claim." -

That's nice, but as I never called you a Nazi, I couldn't care less about your sob story.
Edit:
Nice examples, Ruk. Heh... And, uh, wouldn't you be demonizing Liberals with your comments, D'art? Yup.

It's universal, not tied to one party or the other. There are just different "buzz" words used to demonize each other. If you want a sampling, listen to Rush L. some time.

Array OK, so both sides like to sidestep the need to make substantive arguments by flinging epithets and ad hominem attacks, to poison the well by trying to associate the opposition with words having unpleasant connotations. Agreed.
Is there a screaming need for us to do it here? Do we have to stoop to it ourselves?
Try rising above it, why don't we? Or is that too much work? -

Array Spoken like a true Jew-baiting, tree-hugging, civil liberty hating, feminist, muddy-thinking, book-burning, Communist Nazi!
It's people like you, Inquartata, that give flaming a bad name! Nothing is more frightening than ignorance in action. -
