    Ins and outs of wiring

Now that I've been fencing foil for a year, I figured it would be useful to get a better understanding of the basics of how the electrical system works--with an emphasis on how to diagnose and repair problems in my blade, my body cord, and the overall system.

Any good resources out there for reading/learning?

The best that I have found that is published is Rudy Volkman's book. I believe you can get it at American Fencers and probably other shops.

I don't know where you are located exactly, if you are in the Northern California Division or in Northern California. If you are in the division, contact Matthew Porter at American Fencers and learn from him or one of his employees. You would learn a lot.

If you are in the Mountain Valley Division, one of the clubs is planning on me coming up sometime in the fall and give a clinic. No final date or place, but it will be free to all. If you are interested check with the division. When it is finally resolved, they will let people know.

Donald is most correct. Rudy Volkmann's books are excellent. If you just want to know what goes wrong and how to fix it get intitled "Electrical Fencing Equipment: How It Works, What Goes Wrong, How To Fix It" you can find it Here. But if you want to know more including basic tactics and additional information such as how to build your own fencing partner (dummy) then get "The Big Book on Fencing". It is a 270+ page book on fencing with all kinds of illustrations. You can find it Here.
    Happy Armoring!

I'll put in a third voucher for Rudy. His manual, either stand-alone or as part of "Big Book of Fencing" has been the standard how-to reference in the US.

You should also read through the sections of the rulebook dealing with equipment-- they will explain the operating principle of all the equipment and all of the relevant specifications. Some of the information is in the Materal Rules portion, some is in the Appendices.

    Thank you

Appreciate the prompt response. I'll pick up a copy and stop by American Fencers as well.

    Thanks.

    Woodside,

look under the toolkit thread for a document that I posted there, "Care and Feeding of Weapons" and look at the last section, you will find what you are looking for there and save yoyurself the cost and hassle of buying Rudy's book (not that he doesn't have a fantastic piece of work, but mine is available online and free!) Enjoy.

For your copy of "The Care and Feeding of All Things Fencing", Second Edition go to The Armorer's Store, Fencing.net or www.homfencing.com
