Yeah, I didn't mean this to be a gripe session--guess I titled it wrong. I was just trying to think of all the fencing topics that are perennial repeaters.

Nick Evangelista is perhaps the most outspoken voice for the preservation of classical fencing. He is unpopular among most modern style fencers as he is very intolerant of their views. I do, however, like many of the points he has and enjoy reading his books.

Point taken, water cooler exists, but I have to agree that from time to time in the middle of a good thread, when everyone is on the same wavelength - someone is going to say somthing funny, I can't see breaking the mood - we all need a laugh now and then. Water cooler is like where off-fencing-topics are generated, the fencing theads at least all begin with a fencing topic. Its fun, eveyone enjoys good chat about stuff.

Signing in and out of paragraphs each time a new thought enters your mind is a pain. Maybe people who break the rules think too fast, but I'm a Peace Corps, and we're trained to think outside the box.

Craig is correct in that my question several months ago was resolved.

He's not that popular, i.e. household American name, so I wouldn't consider you to be naive, but he's authored some books on fencing.

Does it or is it your pre-conceived thought that others have these expections?

We should stop disrespecting each other, and especially stop calling one another names like trolls, that was eric and peach, and I found it sort of disturbing.
It's a BBS, get over it or leave.

Well, that's your business. Some people come to this BBS lacking information but pretend to be all knowing or experienced. Those people, I will downgrade... from first-class seating to landing gear bay. BLAHHHH!

I think we need to be careful with thong-wearing despots who flick referees that fail to card shrieking fencers when they lose to 10 year olds with undeserved "E"s who ask repetitive questions about footwork and how long it takes to win a national tournament held in a venue with too few strips and only for the benefit of elite participants.

Oh, and french grips on fencers who've never been to France.

Hah! You neglected to address a key constituency, to wit, advocates of colored uniforms and patterned masks! That'll come back to bite you on Election Day...

If nominated, I will not run.

If elected, I will have the runs.

Precisely the reason we should vote you into office!

(don't you love when someone uses the "you don't want the job so that makes you perfect for it" logic?)

This is sad, no-one is pretending to be an 'expert' whatever that means. looking something up in a book and quoting it on a board to address a public question is not pretending to be an expert.
Some experts have been very insultig to the public. The person who started calling other fencers Trolls needs to check into something; this same person went all the way into New York, to watch and 'meet other fencers'. So, for that I stick up for Tom, who was making a point, but it was rather subtle.

Maybe if someone ONLY wants to get suggestions from their Favorite "expert", they should write personally to that person requesting detailed answers.

I have a conservative personal lifestyle, never bothering people sticking to my own business. The board has changed too much for me, and it's not fun anymore.
