| Shoes and sizing So I'm looking to buy a pair of fencing shoes soon. I've got a couple of things I'd like to know before I place an order. First of all, with Adidas shoes (esp D'Artagnan), how does the sizing work. While I normally wear a size 12, I've noticed that Adidas shoes in general tend to run about 1/2 to 1 size small. My Adidas running shoes were a 13 I think (a bit big), and my old soccer cleats are a 13 (EU 48). The thing is, if I order from fechtsport-langenkamp, I don't want to worry about returning equipment overseas because it doesn't fit.
An alternative to the Adidas shoes could be the chinese fencing shoes at The Fencing Post ( http://www.thefencingpost.com/Pictures/Shoes/CS20.JPG). These aren't even on the review section. Just wondering if anyone has ever tried them. Thanks |

| The adidas shoes I wear are half a size smaller than my New Balance sneakers. Hope that helps. |

| I haven't tried the Adidas, but the Ni-Ling ones worked fine for me. Mine fit perfectly at 12 while I wear an 11.5 New Balance sneaker. |

| i normally wear a us size 12. when i ordered my D'Artagnan from fechtsport-langenkamp, i ordered a 11.5. as it turns out, fechtsport-langenkamp goes by uk sizes for shoes, so my D'Artagnans are labled as us size 12. they fit very well with no complaints. hope this helps |

| Has anyone tried the shoes made by Estoc? The maker of the shoes claims to have built the world's finiest fencing shoe. I need to have some feed back on them.
Thanks,
Scott

| Estoc Shoes Experiences I bought a pair of Estoc high tops for my 9-year-old about a year ago. While he liked the comfort and construction, he wasn't very happy with the sole -- doing most of his fencing on hard surfaces at local tournaments he found them to be a bit slippery as they got dusty.

Have you tried a damp towel next to the strip? There is also a product that we use in our club called Fast Break (we have a wood floor). I saw it in Colorado at the OTC last year. It is an adhesive film that the athlete steps on to remove dust.
Almost any shoe will slip on a hard surface when there is a layer of dust on the sole.
Let me know if you need more info on the Fast Break.

| Scott,
Yes, we tried a damp towel, but my kid would always forget to wipe down the soles at the start of his bouts. He seems to be having better luck with a pair of Adidas shoes that we picked up at the Nationals in Austin.

I've had a pair of the Estoc high tops for about eighteen months. I got them when my son was at the JOs in Columbus. Putting them on was a revelation for my feet. They are much more comfortable than my old Adidas high tops. They have a bit more room in the toe area, but the support is still good.
I agree that they can get slippery on a dusty wood floor (what shoe doesn't?), but the damp towel (actually, I use a damp car chamois: works better, stays damp without dripping all over the floor) usually does the trick.
My only complaints: they're a bit flashy (maybe even clownish) looking, and mine are worn out so I need to buy a new pair.

Paolo | Do you think the red is the problem? I have told them they need to tone it back down. At one time they had a simple white and subtle blue color sceme. But it might have looked to much like Adidas. The red does diffenently set them apart.
Thanks for the feed back!

Scott | Yeah, I think that's the problem. Between the colors and the straps, it looks mighty busy down there.
One thing is for sure, people know when you're wearing them.

Thanks,
Scott | When they were first made, Estoc sponsored Eric Srecki. They had a great ad, a picture of Srecki winning a world cup or championship, I forget which, while wearing the shoes.
I liked some of the ideas of the shoe, like the removable insole, and cushion, but the people I knew who bought it, hated it. One wore them around the house since they were comfortable, but not good for fencing. Another 2 had the sole peel off on the trailing foot within a month. And another hated the traction.
Now, they shoe looks very different with colors, and with reinforced toe drag protection. I haven't heard anything about the new ones, but I definitely think their first attempt to gain some market share really hurt them.
