Array uhlmann 350nw uniform? I'm thinking of purchasing the Uhlmann non-FIE jacket and knickers (350NW) from the Fencing Post-- can anyone give me a review regarding this uniform? I tried the jacket on at BG just for fit (the post has a better price) and they said that it wasn't worth the $$- that it shrank and people were always returning it. Is the material just cotton stretch, or is it a synthetic composite? I couldn't really tell. However, it did fit quite well and was comfortable. Thanks.
*edit* also: sizing question. i have a 40 uhlmann lame that fits perfectly (36" chest, 30" waist); amanda at BG told me to try on the 42 jacket b/c she says they run small. do the knickers also run small? should i get a size 42 as per my waist measurement or should i go up a size?

Array I have a full set of Uhlmann 350N gear, and I'm very happy with the set. I haven't washed the stuff yet (uhh...5 months), so I don't know about shrinkage, but I really like it so far. Personally, the jacket is cut very well for me, but it's the little things like the sleeves that I really like. The sleeves seem to be cut a little narrower than some other jackets out there, and give a good fit. Also, the elastic in the wrists in a nice touch. I haven't had any problems with any of my clothing yet. If you don't want to spring for FIE gear, I would recommend the Uhlmann 350N kit. It feels very well made. -

Array Did anyone find that the jacket or patns ran smaller than usual? -

Array My Uhlmann Classic jacket didn't shrink at all with washing and drying.
As for sizing, it is German sizing, so make sure you don't order the same size that you would from somewhere like Trip or Blade! You'll end up with a small jacket! I wore a 44 from Blade, and a 52 from Uhlmann.
Go to the Uhlmann site and size yourself there before ordering so you'll have the right size. -

Array I had a slight problem when ordering my World Cup Jacket.... the sleeves were too long. That was really no problem. The Fencing Post took the jacket back and Uhlmann sent me a custom jacket to fix the sleeve problem. ... without remorse for the past, confident in the present, and full of hope for the future, [d'artagnan] went to bed and slept the sleep of the brave.

Array Thanks, all; after consulting the Uhlmann website and converting centimeters into inches I decided to order a size up in both the jacket and knickers from what I originally thought I was. Now all I have to do is wait until the 18th when they begin taking orders again. *is excited* -

Array I may be somewhat late in this reply, but Uhlmann does tend to run smaller than what the US size translates to. As in, I would buy the next size up. I've got an 800N world cup, but its never shrunk, and is washed about *cringes* once a month, sometimes twice. I've had it for a year, and no shrinking or distortion. Can't tell you about knickers, bought those somewhere else.
I actually second the sleeves comment- mine are too long, but it hasn't been a problem. Its nice to actually HAVE a long sleeve, not one that is too short.
good luck, and enjoy the new equipment! Uhlmann makes some very nice kit.

Array The 800n World Cup knickers are of the same quality as the jacket. Neither have shrunk. Now that I think of it, I had noticed in the past months that I fenced that my T shirt has been getting untucked while I fence. I am not sure what would cause that. ... without remorse for the past, confident in the present, and full of hope for the future, [d'artagnan] went to bed and slept the sleep of the brave.

Array Really? But I am nearly 23. I cannot imagine that I am still growing. Do not worry, I understand that you are joking with me. Could it possibly be my larger waistline back then? ... without remorse for the past, confident in the present, and full of hope for the future, [d'artagnan] went to bed and slept the sleep of the brave.

Array Saul (Fencing Post) told me that they shrunk just a little. I have seen that as I needed replacement for a 52 jacket, while a new 52 was more "roomy". Same goes with knickers. -

Array D'Artagnan1673: I sympathize with the t-shirt coming un-tucked. Its the very reason I refuse to wear one any longer. If I remember correctly, the uhlmann nickers (like my Leon Paul pair) have suspenders/braces (depends on where you are for what they're called). I've noticed these tend to ruck your t-shirt up, because you lunge, and everything is extended. Its just that the suspenders keep everything there, so when you aren't in a lunge, everything starts to bunch up.
And soon, tada! You have a t-shirt bundled up under your arms!

Array If you aren't wanting a FIE jacket and pants, buy the fencing post's house product. The quality of Fencing Post's stuff is good and they have excellent customer service. Similar Threads -
