Array Spray paint your blade!? Has anyone spray painted their practice or electric blade? Can you spray paint your electric? I think it would be real cool to spray paint my blades a color. Is this legal? -

Array Wouldn't do for sabre fencers . . . "Arm yourself, Watson, there is an evil hand afoot ahead." -- Dennis Pierce, 2010 Bulwer-Lytton contest, detective fiction category runner-up. -
Painting a blade would electrically insulate it.
In all three weapons, it is important for the blade (execpt for the 15 cm on a foil blade that's taped) and guard to be conductive. For sabre, you can't score if the blade is insulated. In foil and epee, the insulated weapon wouldn't be grounded and your opponent could register touches (off-target for foil, valid for epee) on your weapon.
If you're looking for a brightly colored blade, STM makes blades with an iridescent-seeming blue, yellow, or "rainbow" finish. Blaise Freres and the recently revived France-Lames forge (Prieur bought it, but they're still using the France Lames FIE homologation stamp for the blades) also produce blades with colored finishes.

Array All is not lost however, for you can spraypaing whatever you carry you blade around in to protect it. PVC was pretty popular out here. -

Array If you leave your blade with your sweaty kit I find you can get a nice reddish brown color on it, very striking . -

Array still, even if you do spray your practice blades, dont expect it to stay very long, all the blade contact will scrape it off. -

Array I think the gold vniti ones look good enough...
Then again u could try a metallic paint, that might work better. -

Array I don't think your salle will appreciate all the resulting paint flakes on their floors, either. As has been mentioned, beats, parries and especially prises de fer will strip the stuff right back off again in rather short order... Similar Threads -
