| ? for Barry Paul, Leon Paul Team Hey Barry!
How does a fencer get on the Leon Paul Team?
What are the requirements?
Do you accept many people?
Do you accept bribes?

| I have another question too that anyone can answer.
If a US Cadet or Junior or even Senior is on a world team, is there a specific set of fencing clothing or kit they must wear?
Any one actually on a world team in here that knows?
Do I have to bribe you to tell me?

| There is no requirement concerning what brand of equipment must be worn, to my knowledge, at least in the US. Some US fencers wear Uhlmann, some Allstar, some may have other brands, I am not sure.
However there is a requirement from the FIE that all fencers wear the same national logo at all world cups, world championships and olympic games on their equipment. For instance, for the US fencers it should be the red white and blue "shooting star" design. Fencing federations have to send the logo to the FIE.
In the event that a fencer doesn't do this, I think that there is a penalty card or some sort of fine for the fencer.
Of course, one can regularly exceptions that are made to these rules, for example in the 2001 WC in Nimes both French men's sabre fencers in the final were wearing a different kit. Hughes Obry also wears the Adidas kit while other men's epee fencers have the blue white and red stripes.

as veeco said there s a strict FIE rule for ads. You can download it on the FIE website. Sorry, i just have a french version...
an infraction to ads rule leads to a 3rd group red card. the second one is a black card...
does any ref on this site knows about this code?
no need for that, at a locla or even regional level.

| Yes, there is a publicity code, but I don't think that the country logos fall under this jurisdiction...

| nope no wc yet....maybe one day, or in another life.(veeco have you done any WC?)
for veeco and I, it s very difficult to qualify in france. (veeco is much closer than i am though) for a wc.
we can basically go to WC where the french national team is not going...at our own expenses.it s really different than the us system. you guys can go to montreal for instance without qualifying. impossible for us.
however, the purpose of my post was to state that this rules are only applied at international events...
have u ever encountered such a problem or seen it with your own eyes...my answer is no.
final word. though it's seldom applied it should still be known by refs as it is part of FIE rules.
if one day at a regional qualifier a fencer comes with tons of patches on his jacket (different companies...), maybe it might be useful...

| Rokovsoft- The publicity code is an appendix to the rule book. If you're interested in the details you can just look it up there. Incidently the main USFA website now has the 2002 edition of the rules... no more need to pop over to the FOC subsite to get it.
Mo- I've fenced several world cups. Peabody in 2001 and 2002, Newcastle, England 2002. I'm not really sure what your questions are. Is it like a NAC? Sure, there's pools and DE's and fencing. Same in that regard as any competition. The level of fencing is obviously different. In the cups I did I fenced against other Americans (the 2 US cups), Brits (both here and there), and fencers from Japan, Germany, Spain, Iceland, Hungary, and a couple of other countries that I'm forgetting. Sizewise the Peabody cups were (IIRC) 114 and 119 fencers. Newcastle had 41. I finished 71st, 75th, and 9th. Newcastle was a satellite cup (FIE points to the top 8, the heavy hitters don't bother coming), hence the smaller size and better result.
PicoJeff has fenced in a number of world cups (20-something I believe), he'd be a person to ask if you had specific questions.
