USFA Coach's College

Just got back from Level 1 foil Coach's College at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. I want to recommend this very well presented program to anyone who is in the role of teaching and coaching beginner/intermediate fencers. I've been teaching for a while but with no teaching training or coaching training for that matter. This was one of the best things I've ever done for myself as a fencer/teacher/coach.

The facility at Colorado Springs is awesome and the trainers were extremely effective. Maybe I was so impressed because of my limited exposure to the "outside" world of National Fencing but I do believe that all of the participants in our group (a couple dozen men and women from coast to coast) came away with a wealth of new information and skills to share with our students.

My hat is off to the USFA for allowing me to particiate in this wonderful program. I know it's going to make me a better teacher/coach and my students will reap the benefits of it as much as I will.

-Kodiak Kid

p.s.
I've got my CPR card and Sport Safety Card now as a result!

But what can you tell us about the bunk beds? Any injuries to report? Any huge face gashes requiring stitches? Hmmm?....

The fencing site needs hawaii kid!

hawaii kid --

Would you be willing to write up 5-6 paragraphs about your experience at the coach's college, for the "Civilian" fencing website we're building?

I think this would go a long way to highlight the wow factor of fencing. OTC in Colorado Springs, olympian coaches, secret tricks, upping the quality of fencing, &etc. Sometimes there are US fencing teams training at the same time, and the coaches look in on their practice. Did you see anybody? Did it look hard?

If you don't have time for a full article, you could just brain-dump everything that happened, and what it was like. And then Craig or myself could whip it into shape.

Let us know!
