Nope switch to verizon, at&t, or t-mobile. I'm on at&t personally, never had a problem with them.

With Sprint, I sometimes I have trouble getting a digital signal. In my area the most tower per area is Verizon. But they nickel and dime you to DEATH, that's why I still have my Sprint.

We're using ATT right now, and it hasn't been too bad. I do'nt really know about the others.

I'm on ATT and it's mostly okay. I even got a phone that works both here and in Europe, which has been very helpful.

It will be great when phone number portability arrives, and we can change carriers without changing phone numbers.

Jeff, a family friend just gave my mom her old phone because she wont be using it anymore (cell that is) and we were talking about it a few days ago and they both mentioned that you don't have to change numbers. So I do believe we have number portability. Though it could be a state thing, to each state his own ya know.

It is actually a new law that the cell companies lobby against but was enacted earlier this year. They are in the process of implementing it.

Iwant2bafencer: did they change plans (like, go from AT&T to Sprint) and still retain the same number? That's the part that I think you can't do yet, though relief is on the way, like JEC said. If they did pull that trick off, please ask them how they did it - they'll become heroes,

Yes, Zelda, we have some primitive things here - but we're trying! (Those darn lobbyists keep getting in the way)

Sprint, particularly, and some others like Cingular, got started late in the antennae-building business. AT&T (formerly Cellular One) and Verizon have been at it since the 80's. Now people care and fight against many proposed new towers for aesthetic and health reasons that newer companies want to build; whereas AT&T, et al, already have one up...
I heard a new law would free up restrictions on temporary leasing of other company's antennae to patch up coverage holes, though.
BTW, I have AT&T, whivh even has coverage over Molokini Crater off Maui.
You must excuse me, I have a boat waiting.

Here's an irony: I was at a business meeting at AT&T offices in central New Jersey, and my AT&T based cell phone said "Roaming". They didn't have good AT&T service at their own campus! (they were somewhat embarrassed...)

My wife and I have a shared minutes plan with AT&T for our phones. Free to call each other, which is 90% of our usage.

I have no problems with my Sprint PCS service. It worked great for me for the last 5 years. Although, I have experienced a few glitches here and there.

When I'm out in the rural areas my signal is weak/nonexistent or roaming. Granted their network is limited to major cities and along major highways, but I think that's probably the same with the other digital systems.

The only down side for me is that it's only good in the US with roaming in some countries.

Actually, I just changed from Sprint to Verizon. I moved to D.C. and half of the time my phone couldn't keep a digital signal! Sprint offered to cut my monthly fee in half AND send me a new 3G phone, but I told them it wouldn't help me get service where they didn't have towers. I'm happy as a clam with verizon (even works in (most of) the metro. The price is within $5 of what Sprint charged AND I'm getting lots more minutes. Of course I seldom use the darned thing.

I have five verizon phones numbers. 1 for the wife 1 for me 1 for each of my son's and the newst one for my lap computer that gives me DSL speed with their Serrria card. I paid for that one though 80.00 a month but unlimited air time . WHen I started with verizon out here they were US West Celleur then Air Touch and Verizon. I had nothing but great customer service with them

Yes, Sprint service works best when you are located close to one of their towers. Sprint has their own network, therefore, Sprint service is limited to those areas. Once you leave those areas, you get bad or no service.
I suggest you talk to people in your area to see who gets good reception and then go with that carrier.

The Sprint PCS service is good if you are always using your cell phone in a metro area.

    Sprint again

There was an article about cell phones the other day on AOL. They had a message board to go with it.
Most of the complaints were about Sprint. It was kind of amazing.

The horrible lack of polite customer service was one of the main points. The fact they get you in the system but keep you from every connecting with anyone that can actually help you.

The people who talk to you have an amazing ability to shift blame. Everything is the customer's fault or the phone's fault.

Verison is GREAT! No problems at all. Can do!

you know the problem might just be your phone.
    funny story...
so this person who i used to know was having problems with their phone(sprint) and went to the store to get it fixed. well the ppl there said there was no probem but trust me there was. whenever you tried to use the phone you would get disconnected. so this person got very cranky and ran over their phone and handed it to the person behind the counter and said "give this to your manager and tell him this is what we think of your service". she got a new phone and hasnt had problems since. i wouldnt recommend running over your phone (even though it looked very cool and pancake-ish) but you might try getting a different phone.
