Cleared? How does breaking down crying and admitting Martha altered the phone logs to mask insider trading clear her? Seems more like Martha is going down in flames to me.
FYI: there is no such thing as a verbal order to sell a stock if it drops to a specified price. Those are called "stop loss" orders, and are always (at least, always at Merrill Lynch) entered into the computer systems tied to the account (otherwise it would be useless if the broker was at lunch or on vacation when the stock moved). So, Martha's claim that she had such an arrangement cannot be true. Since she used to be a broker herself, she surely is familar with the rules for trading. Guilty!
Disclosure: I used to work at Merrill, so I know somewhat of the relevant procedures
"In theory, theory and practice are the same, but in practice, theory and practice are different."
I am not so much worried about her status in society, but rather that I do not believe that people should gloat at another's misfortunes. That even goes for when that person has it coming, as everyone seems to believe applies for Martha.

i'm going to have to disagree with you there. for me martha has done nothing but give a few good laughs on SNL. and i just don' like her. It's nice to see her going down on this charge. she knew exactly what she was doing and all for pocket change to her.

That's a load of crap. Without Martha, we wouldn't have any idea of how to decorate your home in "tasteful" ways using the strangest things. The stuff she talks about/demonstrates has absolutely no relevance to 99% of the real population out there. Slap some wallpaper up, buy a cookbook, remember your manners from when you were a kid. Basic culture/class. We don't need her crap.

Come on man. There is a reason why her company is so successful. She does a lot of good. I don't understand why anyone would hate her. She earned everything she has through hard, honest work. Many peopl are jealous of her.
It's successful because people read her magazine - not because that's where they get culture or class from. It's successful because people buy her stuff - not because without it, they'd be dragging their knuckles and grunting. And some do that even with Martha Stewart stuff, I'm sure.
And I should think a simple review of the past year's goings-on concerning Ms. Stewart should be enough to convince you it was not through all "hard, honest work" that she got what she has. Even if she weren't on trial, the simple fact that she was involved with the stock market rules out the "hard" part of your statement.
