| Fencing in Seventeen Log files can be very interesting things.
I was looking at referrer logs for what sites are sending traffic to Fencing.Net and I noticed a few hits from seventeen.com.
Hmm...Fencing in Seventeen magazine? I wonder what that's about.
So, I found the following page which will be in the July issue. http://www.seventeen.com/sexbody/se....pl?sign=gemini
It seems that they've tagged fencing as the ideal sport for Gemini. They seem to think yoga would be the ideal for those scorpios out there.
Now I have to live with the stigma that I've been to the seventeen.com web site. *shudder*
Cheers,
Craig |

| Worse yet, you've sent us there! Gee, thanks!
I'm interested to see that it looks like the epee is an implant on the girl's arm. Do we think that this is how fencing will jump on the extreme sport bandwagon? |

| Hmm that little article was pretty interesting, had some good facts. I do think that is what fencing needs. Lots of small references to make it an every day thing.
Jasmine McGlade was in Teen Magazine because of her fencing in the sportswoman of the year category.
I maintain that fencing is both an old and new sport.
Disney has a segment during the programing called "Follow Your Dream." There are many girls in the age category they like 12-15 who could do a short on fencing. I have searched the site though and never found a way to send them information about fencing.
I admit that Disney is somewhat of a last resort but if they could publicize fencing it would plant a seed in many adolescent minds.

| Why I don´t believe in Astro! Hi!
This thread cries of for a less-than-serious response, so here goes:
I once searched a birthday site to see which historical celebrities share my birthday (Feb. 16th). The list I got was a Brazilian pornstar who later got absolutely mad, a tennis star most known for his temper tantrums, and one of Hitler´s henchmen. Talk about company.
Oh, Feb 16th has for decades also been the day to hand in your tax returns to the Swedish IRS.
Have a nice time!

| Hi Peter. There's also one in Japan who started his career several years ago. He used to live in the United States but they deported him because he killed a girl. Now he's a "star"! But he may be deceased by now, he's completely off his rocker. He was on TV doing some kind of interview which I tried not to watch. Okay so I'll look up my birthday and find out what happened on the day I was born......[I'm afraid to look] |

| Hey, that is great! I think that any exposure fencing gets, the better. And good for Jasmine for being in Teen Magazine for the sportswoman thing, as Mo brought up. She is a good fencer, and it is great that she and the sport are being recognized in such a widely read magazine. |

They have bought the rights to Peter Westbrooks story and are planning on making a movie like 'Cool Running' and 'Remember the Titans'.

| I dont mean to be a downer, or depressing, but Fencing has gotten coverage before, many movies, many TV shows, Commercials, Magazine ads, in the newspaper of virtuly every larg city....I think the Peter Westbrook thing would be great, and im sure (if its good, and if its not, im gunna be pissed) that Fencing as a whole will get huge, depending on the portrayal of Westbrook story.
YAY fencing was in an Ad on a website!!!!
wait.....how many other sports are on how many other websites, TVs, and ect...? fencing is known, just not as well as we would all like.
The Summary: Fencing has gotten coverage before, its not like this is its "big break" or its "spotlight" Fencing will continue to evolve slowly as it has for many years. it wont suddenly jump into the fast lane, and become bigger than basketball, baseball, Lacross, or any other sports. Fencing isnt on TV all the time....untill its being shown on the news every week, and given the type of highlights other sports get. It will not become the new American sport.

Chris Triplett | i believe fencing will continue to evolve but i dont believe it will ever get bigger than the "big " sports we have today . well i dont know how things are in the US but from the posts ive read here its not all that easy for many of you to even find a fencing club , and its not easy for me either . "hopefully "i live in a big city ( 2.5 million inhabitants ) and only one fencing club . it scares me to death that someday this club might close thats why im so worried about fencing not getting the spotlights .
also fencing here in brazil gets almost no coverage at all . last april elora pattaro got a silver medal and i only saw coverage in one newspaper that is not even distributed in my state ( and i work at a magazine store) . i actually thought it was going to be like what happened in tennis .... when gustavo kuerten got a medal tennis got all the soptlights but its seems like nobody even bothered to publish eloras medal . |

| Ariela:
Start another club. 2.5 million? Sounds like you're at least 4 clubs short!
If you build it, they will come (and you tell them about it, and convince them it's safe, fun, athletic, and cool).
You don't need to be an expert. You just need the critical mass of dedication (and money). |

| fencing cost is comperable Quote: Originally posted by Ariela most ppl think fencing is way too expensive for them... its not all that cheap but its pretty affordable tho . | Getting the required starter equipment in fencing is less than or equal to the required equipment for:
- Football
- Hockey (roller or ice)
- Golf
It is much cheaper to get into:
- Soccer
- Running
But that is ignoring any league or coaching/lesson fees. Once you add those in, it's also really expensive to participate in:
- Tennis
- Gymnastics
So, fencing is really the same cost as other sports that you'll get into, some people just let the perception that it's expensive get out of hand.
