Array Applying for an FIE License Does the USFA give these things to anybody who asks for one (like me)?
And, once i have one, am i able to fence the louisville world cup? it says on the USFA website that all you need is an fie license to fence in it, although last year i know you had to have junior or cadet points (which i do not have). -

Array I think they'll give it to you, but that doesn't mean they'll let you fence in Louiville. I'm assuming next year will be the same, only people on the points list. That said, you still have a chance to get points during nationals. -Sabresque

Array You have to fill out an application and send it in with payment. It's like USFA membership--doesn't mean a whole lot but gets you a nice magazine, and it's required if you fence in World Cups (which have other requirements). Array It'll let you fence the senior WC in Montreal, but as mentioned, will not let you fence the junior WC in Louisville (although it is required to fence in Louisville).
Anyone else find it stupid that they are allowed to fence in Havana but not in NYC?

Array is a license of any kind or anything required to fence in just a normal tournament? "Go hang a salami I'm a lasagna hog" -The Big Book of Palindromes -

Array sabresque, i'm not going to nationals.
are there any "open" junior or senior world cups for mens epee? -

Array A517dogg- Americans have open entry into North American (or is it both Americas? I forget) World Cups, EXCEPT that the USFA has added a requirement for Americans in world cups in the US that they also be on the appropriate USFA points list. So for epee you could do the senior world cups in Montreal, Cuba, and Puerto Rico. You might also be allowed to do the world cups in Columbia and Argentina, I'm not sure. For junior world cups you would be allowed to do the one in Cuba (cancelled this past season) and Canada, but not the one in the US.

Array If it is hosted by your USFA division or is sponsored by a club and they have been approved and they expect to give ratings, then yes. If a collegiate or a non-USFA high school tournament then no. In our area, the only local tournaments that do not require a USFA membership are ones fenced in a club with noone from outside the club.
So, in Southern California for sure, most likely if you want to compete you have a USFA membership. Donald Hollis Clinton, Jr. DHCJr@juno.com

Array does it cost money or a certain skill level to get a USFA lisence? "Go hang a salami I'm a lasagna hog" -The Big Book of Palindromes -

Array it's a membership rather than a lisence, it costs different ammounts based on if you're competeing, how old you are, if you're registering with the rest of your family- it'll probably be ~$40 for you.. however, you get a nifty magazine four times a year!! and newsletters!!
(i like the newsletters, i recently went back and reread the ones from 3 years ago... i love looking back at when one of my friends got his D.... i'm not gonna see him at the next big tourny, because intead of going to Pomme de Terre, he's headed for the world cup....)
no skill is required, thank god. -
