| Book Thread I hate to start a new one, but have just read through some new books: here's a gem about fencing:
1. ...not at all" I should answer, "it has come back to its proper object. For consider, - an exercise, an art which starts with the fundamental idea of a fight between two men who are thirsting for each other's blood, cannot be regarded as a mere amusement, or as an academical study incivility and good manners." etc
This is a perfect description of what fencing is. from the Secrets of the Sword. Neither 'amusement' nor 'mere exercise'.
2. I hate to contradict anyone on the board, but...Nick Evangelista is a great author of fencing books! Rudy Volkman, move over! I'm also reading through The Woman Fencer and the Inner Game of Fencing. Here is a man who understands women![must be the influence of his better half]. Don't throw away that typewriter. If I were 20 years old I'd take classes from him, but I'm not 20, and let's be real, I have to really press and wouldn't want to dissapoint a coach.
3. Foil, Saber and Epee Fencing - already I'm ready to jump out of the door and go to classes, but must wait one more day! |

| Yes, kudos to the Evangelistas for writing a book on the rare topic, women and fencing. IIRC, Anita Evangelista (Nick's wife) wrote "The Woman Fencer." However, you can find reviews on Amazon where Anita claims to have written the other books as well.
She's quite busy... here's another book of hers: Backyard Meat Production: How to Grow All the Meat You Need in Your Own Backyard. I kid you not. She's a writing demon! Here's her list: list of books.
Some people will tell you that the Evangelistas have a weird, skewed and destructive view of fencing. Those people are right.
But there is currently no one better or more famous for making a readable intro-to-fencing book. Their books make people excited about fencing, which is important. There are many voices in fencing, and the Evangelistas are but one voice. |

| I have heard the term before, it's an agriculture term, usda uses the term 'growing meat' all the time, though it does have an unsavory ring to it. It refers to animal husbandry. Kudo's to you for reading, the books. |

| Since this thread is discussing books, has anyone here ever thought of making a fencing book by compiling the posts from this discussion board? There is a lot of good information on many fencing topics from a variety of sources posted here.
Obviously one would have to do a lot of editing and catagorizing of posts, and leave out bickering posts, and posts that quickly become irrelevant as time goes by like "who is going to this year's nationals?" type of posts, but I think it would be an informative and unique book about fencing.

| ja ja ja ja! I did. About two years ago, when we were writing real fun stuff and we had Arcon of Arconia!
[We miss Arcon, hail Arcon], but realize that Arcon has morphed into another being. We felt sublimness towards our dear hero, his winsomeness and handsomeness spanning the globe. My oils, my paints, my watercolors spoke of Arcon, mighty King. Our story grew into an Epic. Which brought in mighty warriors from across the seas. Mighty Space_Cadet, king of Texas, his kinsman, George Washington [with a faint odor of old underwear], his spouce Martha, who dealt him a mighty blow and sent him scatteing to the four corners of the earth. Then unbeknownst to us, the Birds of the West grew in strength and thundered mightily to our Master of the Web, Prince Craig. Moonitic objected strongly to Mango's suggestion of printing out 100 pages and stapling them together, xeroxing 500 copies and selling them for $10.00 at the Nationals which could be an additional fund raiser for our Mighty Swordsman of Scandalnavia

| Relax Jupiter, it was just the way you composed the sentence in question made me think that you were implying that form of knowledge (were the *** for expurgation?) It read funnier that way too.
