    Schools in Chicago

    Hi,

I'm having trouble finding a good school in or around the Chicago area. There is one I particularly liked but it is located too far in the suburbs to take with public transportation.

I'm very interested and have checked out several school listings on the net. Unfortunately, they a)don't have a working number or website (fencing 2000) b)i don't trust them to give me proper instruction.

    Someone help me,

    I feel so lost

Fencing 2000 is no longer in business. For all practical purposes, it has been succeeded by Chicago Athletic Association Fencing Club, at the Chicago Athletic Association. They're still in the process of getting the permanent facilty at the CAA remodeled, but it will be fantastic when it's done.

Precisely where are you in the Chicago area, and what do you mean by "proper instruction"?

    Hi!

Fencing 2000 is no longer open, which is probably why you had trouble getting information. A new club just opened downtown in the Chicago Atheltic Association building on 12 S. Michigan Ave. I haven't been yet because I just got back from school, but it's supposed to be quite nice. And it's close to a ton of trains, so taking public transportation won't be a problem. Their site is www.caafc.com/, it has the phone number and what not. Hope this helps, and perhaps I'll see you there!

    school or club

By school do you mean fencing club or you want to attend a school that offers fencing? There are few of each, but the added difficulty with going to a school that offers fencing is that you have to be in that district.

Illinois Fencers Club and Naperville Fencers Club are the other two large ones. Chicago Fencers Club is smaller. Beyond that there are a few park district programs in the suburbs that would be suitable for a beginner at least. (Northbrook, New Trier, Evanston)

i am from the caafc, and it is a great club. any fencer would be happy with the facilities, even the temp ones. there are numerous advantages to this club,a ll of which are listed in the aforementioned website (thanks bug). so if you are interested in starting up, call or email matt morich, who is in charge of the fencing stuff.

You should probably come and visit some of these clubs as well and see which club program is right for you. Illinois fencers club has a great program as well as the Naperville Fencing Club. No fancy gyms to see but you will get alot of footwork, drilling and fencing.

i am sorry if i made it seem as if the caa only has a "fancy" gym. we also have many excellent fencers and a competitive training program, as well as several open fencing nights, for all weapons and all ages. i should have made that clear. forgive me.
