| Boston Anyone in Boston? What nights do you fence? Are there guest fees? What weapons? Contact numbers would also be helpful.
I have a club member here that is headed to Boston next week for business and he's not looking forward to taking a week off. Foil and epee are what he primarily fences, although he dabbles in sabre. He also speaks pretty fluent english, so that's not a problem. I told him I'd ask around and see what I could find out. Any info would be appreciated. |

| Hey...
Unfortunatly there isnt any fencing in boston proper (Save the one high school and the colleges that are now out of session). Just outside of boston in Waltham, is where the Boston Fencing Club is ( www.bostonfencingclub.org) ... There is good epee there on Thursday nights, excellent sabre on Wednesday nights, Monday and Tuesday also have open fencing and I believe it is primarily Foil, though I'm not entirely sure. Floor fees are $10/night ($5/night for college students)
Another option is Prise de Fer ( www.prisedefer.com), a little further away, in Bedford, MA. Tuesday and Thursday nights are their open fencing nights, all weapons both nights. Floor fee is $10/night
A third option is Zeta Fencing ( www.zetafencing.com), in Natick. Monday and Wednesday nights are epee nights, Tuesday is pretty much a foil night, with some sabre mixed in, I am unsure about thursday and friday. Floor fees also $10/night.
A list of clubs is also available on the New England division website ( www.neusfa.org)
Let me know if you have any other questions, or would like more specifics. How long is your friend going to be around for?

| FWIW, I heard from Brian Bower that getting into MIT to fence is damned near impossible without an MIT ID now... just a thought to keep in mind.

| I have yet to actually try to get into fencing at MIT so I don't really know how hard it is. As far as I know, they're switching to summer hours june 1st, which might mean just 2 hours, 6-8, on mondays[unconfirmed ATM], which isnt a huge change from the current 7-9:30 that it is currently.
All I really know for sabre is Boston fencing club on wednesdays, tho attendance seems to be down in recent weeks(tho I wasnt there yesterday or last week as I'm battling the plague )
I've also heard good things about PdF on tuesdays and FRIdays. What lacks in quanitity is at least made up for in quality.
edit: BFC floor fee is $5 a night for college students?
I've been a college student all year as far as I can remember and I've been paying 10. Should I say something?

| Ben,
You should say something. I found out about it when Mike tried to arrange a discount for the whole UMASS team to go the night before we left for Florida, and was told "College students only pay $5" ... when I said something to Davis about it he said "Oh, I didn't realize you were a college student." And I've only paid $5 since then... I suggest you do the same.

| Thanks all, I gave him some contact numbers, and he said he'd check them out. It's only a week long visit I believe, so I've no idea whether he'll follow through on this or not. |
