| Div I-A has been around for several years as an elite competition in Summer Nationals, to attract better fencers in years when Div I is held separately because of the dates of World Championships.
Div I National Championships is part of the national points system for qualifying for World teams. You have to have national points already to fence in it. Sometimes it is part of Summer Nationals and sometimes it is held earlier.
Div I-A does not give any points. You qualify for it by various means (sectional championships, previous finishes in Summer Nationals, first in junior sectional championships, etc.), but having national points is not one of them. The incentive in the I-A is top 4 get A classifications, next 4 get Bs, plus it's a nice competition.

| If your division has an early div II/III qualifier you can fence all four levels. Have a D, qualify for div II/III, earning your C. Go to the April NAC, earn points qualifying yourself for div I. Go to sectionals and qualify for div IA. Would have been possible with the schedule in Connecticut division this year, presumably that's true elsewhere also.

Then, fence in your sectional qualifier in the open and place in the top ten for Division 1-A. | Slight correction: top 10 OR top 30%.

| Quote: Originally posted by Peach If you are a D-rated fencer, you can fence all three. You can't fence Division I, however, because the requirement for Division I is national points and this year you had to have a C or higher to fence Division I NACs, where the points are earned.
Division I and Division I-A are not the same thing. | Well, you could have qualified to Div I by placing high enough last year at the Div I Nationals (get points there), and at that time, there was no requirement for getting to Div I other than having national points, which last year required just a D.

-m | The paperwork for the Senior Sectional Open says: Top 30% with (at least) the top ten qualifying.
Next time you correct someone make sure you know what you are talking about. (as if)
If there were 9 people in the Open Event at Sectionals they all went. If there were 8, they all went.

| You can also qualify to Div II through Sectionals, if you have not already done so at Division level. |

I guess I forgot to say "whichever is greater", but I thought that was fairly clear. the only thing I was pointing out was that you forgot the top 30% rule. In NAS Sectionals, all of the men's events had a top 30% more than 10, so forgetting that rule is kinda bad, and I wanted to make sure everybody knew about it.
you REALLY need to not take offense so quickly. as I said, it was a SLIGHT correction. it was for the edification of the others on the board.
btw, if your senior sectionals has only 8 or 9 people, you might want to work on development. (note: that was a joke. if you don't get it, find somebody with a sense of humour and I'm sure they'll be GLAD to explain it to you).

| Greetings Sarah! and your uplifting chatter just before National competitions is well worth the visit!!!
Everyone is doing fine, I'll be staying at the homefront this year I feel more preparation is needed before tackling this, and especially I feel the war, the earthquakes and so forth have not lent a very high spirit to the upcoming events. So I am passing, haven taken my fill at the local level and feel more than satisfied. However, since there are many younger competitors who still have the spirit; I plan to cheer them on as long as it's safe for them to go. I wish we had charted a bus and put about 20 people on it and gotten a block of rooms, but we didn't. For now Sarah, I wish you the very best of luck and hope that your arm improves in strength and mightyness. |
