Array if i could cheat, i would make it so i could control the lights from my weapon. not that i would, because i know it is wrong, and like any game one cheats in, it takes the fun out of winning. but still...
actually, at a NAC in 2002, there was this fellow in junior ME, who i won't name, but he was definitely cheating against a person i know in the DE's. when a touch was scored against him, a single light, he would call for his weapon to be tested, and at the same time it was being tested, he would pull out his body cord from the plug in the back with one hand, while holding the weapon in the other, causing the weapon to appear faulty, and as a result of this, my friend's touch was taken back. the cheater won. the sick part is that the director knew about it too. she turned a blind eye, purposely. but the best part is that it was all caught on tape. hah hah hah.
however, i have no idea as to what happened to either the young man or the director. but i saw her reffing two tournaments later. i am a witness to this with my own eyes, and i can attest that everything here is true.
yep. cheating is bad kids. you will get caught. -

Array Hhhmmm, I don't think that I would cheat if I could... I'd like it better to win knowing that I won by using my skill and luck, not my slyness. I guess that I'm a good girl at heart. I know a couple fencers at my club that always pretend that my touches aren't real touches. It's so annoying! Well.... that's my. Proditio plerumque amatur, proditor odio habetur.

Array dosnt cheating mean doing something against the rules? you can cheat if you want, just dont get caught. but if you do, and you prolly would, i would (in sabre) as im lunging pull my jacket clip off so they dont get a light.

Array I used to hate it when people would ignore touches against them as well. So not I only fence electric. It's just better to know that I hit someone and be able to point at a light while they whine, "I didn't even feel that! I have no idea where you just hit me." -

Array Cheating vs. Infraction What do you really define as cheating?
In Fencing, I'd view any infraction that was penalized by a red or yellow card as a permitted part of the game - permitted with an associated cost. Only black card offenses result in an ejection and thusly are NOT part of the game.
If fighting weren't part of hockey, there wouldn't be a penalty named for it.
[Devil's Advocate mode on]
However, someone else might have a different perspective: If you decide to haul off and just punch your opponent with your off-hand, receive a black card, are ejected from venue and serve x months suspension, but are ultimately allow to fence USFA events after your "time out," one might say that fighting is a permitted part of the game, as is blood doping, failing to shake hands and all the other Black card No-no's.
[Devil's Advocate mode off]
Of course this comes under the philosophy of "its only wrong if you get caught" which I personally don't follow, but suspect there are those out there who do. -
obsered? do you mean absurd, like this thread?
cheaters only cheat themselves, so what's the point? It's not like there's tons of money in this game, and how valuable could the prestige be if you knew you cheated to get there?
The whole sport is infused with honor. This topic is disgusting.
And disappointing.
I have a problem with reversing my shoulders which is a cardable offence. I know it and I'm trying to correct it. If I accidently on purpose do it and don't "get caught", am I cheating? Or just breaking the rules? If I step off the end of the strip and don't get carded for it, was that cheating? What if I did get a card?
Anyway, to answer your question, what would I do if I could cheat and get away with it? I wouldn't.
p.s. I see your name is headless. Would that perhaps mean "hit my head twice as a child" kind of headless?

Array I am not saying I would. I was just trying to think of what other things fencers would come up with to give them an advantage in a bout. Sort of like we are doing with Iraq. We have enogh nuclear power to take them off the face of the earth- but do we?!?!? NO!!! -

And disappointing. The thread was a troll to begin with, take it with a grain of salt.

If you somehow manage to benefit by it and the ref doesn't encourage you to stop by issuing card(s) then by all means continue if you feel its the way you want to win. You wouldn't be the first fencer to exploit the weakness of the referee to their advantage, just as one would exploit a weakness of an opponent. Its part of competition. The rules and the ref are all part of the game, No? You can complain to the bout commitee and request observers - 'cause thats in the rules too. Oh yeah, if you step off the end of the strip you won't be carded - you will be pointed, one for your opponent! (t.27)
Anyway, to answer your question, what would I do if I could cheat and get away with it? I wouldn't. Then what does "accidentally on purpose" mean? What about the recent thread that suggests that a chest protector and tight lame can help a glancing foil point from landing? What about using an Ulmann glove with its stiffer gauntlet material instead of that cushey soft suede one that seems to attract the epee tip to is folds and wrinkles. How about when you put on that OTHER lame that you still can zip up but probably has a few square inches less target area than your spare lame
p.s. I see your name is headless. Would that perhaps mean "hit my head twice as a child" kind of headless? Gotta agree with you there Kodiac, I was gonna defend Headless when you went with the absurd and disgusting thing, but when Headless attempted to relate finding an advantage in a bout to "Sort of like we are doing with Iraq. We have enogh nuclear power to take them off the face of the earth- but do we?!?!? NO!!!"
Well, Headless...you are an absolute knuckle head...think about it. If that doesn't help, read the newspapers for a couple weeks, then think about it some more. Then think again about repeating something you heard someone else say unless you understand and believe it as well.
