I've sometimes considered using orange traffic cones to discourage people from stepping atop Favero reels however I like the idea of simply hitting them with a baseball bat (the people - not the reels).

Unfortunately since there isn't room in my tool case for a bat I might have to make do with a rubber mallet.

    Sorry, thread drift!

There is an armorer out there that I would like to make use of a rubber mallet.

Someone brought up a broken Sabre cord made of coiled telephone wire.

That wasn't the problem! They completely covered the screw with solder. Sam got some of it off and thought it was a Phillip head screw. I took off more of it, but not all and found it was a Torx head screw.

Covering the screw was bad enough, but how many Armorers weigh themselves even more and carry a complete set of Torx wrenches.

If you ever have a spring break on the Favaro, you are going to be doing a lot of work and have a bigger expense than any other.

Favero reels are relatively new however it's getting to the point where they could challenge the Uhlmann turtles as "the standard". From what I've seen of them they are reliable, but as DHCjr said, they look to be a major pain when they eventually do need some serious repairs.

I have replaced a spring case on a Milleniium. I did not find it too difficult. (There are a couple of tricks to doing it, however.) I don't know how much it cost, as the owner supplied the parts.

You do have problems with the Farvo reels the plastic guide like on the uhlmann it will wear out by the cord rubbing up againist it.

The guide is not placed well, so the wire rubs up against the guide as the wire does not go straight back. This causes a groove like the Uhlmann, BUT you don't know it is happening unless you open it up.

True enough, but they are cheap and easy to replace. If you keep an eye on them (the grooving can be detected without opening the reel) they can be replaced before the cord gets damaged.

The angle of attack on the guides is actually "adjustable". With the top removed, the bracket to which they are attached can be bent in increments until the cord feeds in the way you want.

So far the only mechanical problems we've had with ours ( we have 10 ) is that the spring meant to keep the plug from slamming into the reel when released---the one on the cord---sometimes goes into the reel and can jam up the wire feeding.

I have seen this happen, but only with guides that should have been replaced due to excessive wear.

Plus the speed brake will also wear as well.

The brake is also "adjustable" and only needs to be done after a significant amount of use.

I've sometimes considered using orange traffic cones to discourage people from stepping atop Favero reels however I like the idea of simply hitting them with a baseball bat (the people - not the reels).

This seems to be the biggest problem I have found with these reels. Yes, if they bend the top it will cause lots of problems. I like the idea of using a Taser, though.

Something that I wish was standard equipment on All reels is a small rubber ball just behind the connector (or the spring on the Favero). It would help.

This is a GREAT idea. Shouldn't be too hard to make this mod myself. Thanks, DHCJr!
