Half a tip in a barrel...

Hi all

I have the interesting problem of half a tip being stuck inside the barrel - the top half flew off in a bout, I've taken out the grub screws, but the spring and two little bits from the tip are still in there. Needless to say, I've been trying to prise them out with a screwdriver, bent paper-clip, smacked the barrel on the floor a good few times...I just don't know why the stuff won't come out! Suggestions would be greatly appreciated .

It would help if you are more specific about what type of tip it is. I am assuming it is a german foil tip because I haven't seen this happen to any of the others. It sounds like the barrel is warped from a hit to the bell guard or some other hard surface.

If you have a mandrel that will reshape the barrel, try working that in there and see if it helps.

Sorry - you're right, I should specify that it's an Uhlmann v1 barrel and tip. The warped theory is the one I hoped was a figment of my imagination...I don't even know what a mandrel is, I suppose I'll just ask someone around here who has lots of tools

Thanks for the advice!

Catal is on a distinguished road
I use a hair pin to push from the bottom of the barrel, just be sure it's a strong one or you'll bend the pin.

This happens with the German and the French type points. Did you remove the screws?

The reason the tip flies out is the base is only presure fitted on. The screws hold the collar in place allowing the tip to move freely. When the tip flies out the rest will stay in. Once the screws are removed the spring should push out the collar and the base.

See if that helps.
