Array ReReRemise? Okay, I think I was wrong about remise. Studying a little further, I realize I'm using an erroneous convention if I follow the text to the letter (a dangerous assumption given the double-retranslation of the USFA rules) However, I think most directors call it a remise and not a redoublement simply because that little "indirect" clause is too hard to catch to form the distinction. After all, whether is riposte is direct or indirect forming the distinction between them saying "remise" or "redoublement" is not foremost on their minds.
In any event, remise and redoublement are both new actions. If performed without parrying or after the fencing time of the opponent's remise, they are being performed in counter-time. So, to be perfectly precise according to the text in the rule book:
-If B retreats and makes a riposte that is immediate, simple, and direct, A's held lunge is a redoublement.
-Otherwise, A's held lunge is a remise if
-B fails to riposte
-B performs a delayed riposte
-B performs an immediate, compound riposte
-B peforms an immediate, simple, indirect riposte
Although A's stance mirrors the PIL position, I doubt very many directors will call it as such. PIL seems to get called as an initial offensive action (from the fencer's own initiation for into preparation), not as a reaction.
I'll let you pour over the guts of t.8 and t.10 on your own time.
