| Jeff Rosen had a problem with static electicity at a NCAA held at the Air Force Academy, which has a very arid enviroment. They lost one machine through static electricity. He came up with a solution that appeared to work as no other machines were lost.
A metal plate was taped to each table, next to the machines and the plate wired to ground. A sign was placed at each table, The sign said 'Touch plate before touching machine'. He also made sure each referee and each scorekeeper knew to do that also.
That is the inexpensive solution.
The second solution is not so cheap and that is to either wire a GFI into each circuit or to use GFI extension cords.
