An alternative to the fan [if the visor is misting up] is a device yo can buy for Motorbike helmets. You fit it below the visor it ensures that the visor doesn't mist up.

I find the visored masks:
  • bulky
  • heavy
  • and ugly.

Personally I wouldn't wear a lexan mask unless either 1. I had to or 2. someone paid me a lot of money to wear one. I've heard enough horror stories about them failing under stress to put me off.

If the idea was to improve fencing as spectacle or make it more television friendly then coloured masks are proabaly the way to go. Check this one out. http://www.leonpaul.com/news/team_s/la_halst.htm

If you've got your choice of mask design it will probably be more fun for spectators than trying to see through a bit of plastic mask and trying to work out what is going through a fencer's tiny pea-brain.
