    Fencing near Hartford, Connecticut

One of our junior members is moving from Baltimore to the Hartford area, and
his parents are looking for a good club either there, or someplace in the
state. They would prefer a club which is oriented toward competition. So far,
the only place they have been able to discover is the Hartford YMCA.

Does anybody here have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I don't remember exactly where the Candlewood Fencing Center is, but
it's in Connecticut and I think it's fairly competitive, so that might
be worth looking into. At least they might have some further
    suggestions.

Thanks. This looks like a pretty good place for him.

CFC is in Danbury which isn't exactly close to Hartford (about 65 miles).
However, there may not be anything else close.

Northampton Mass. has a couple of clubs, but I don't think it's any closer.

Thanks. I am hoping that if I could make it from Poughkeepsie to the Fencers
Club or Santelli back in the Eighties (about 75 miles, as I dimly recall),
these people will be able to go this far, at least until they can relocate.
    They do seem very dedicated.

Candelwood is about 50 mins from downtown Hartford on I84. Northhampton is
about the same distance on I91.

Candlewood is a full time 6000sqft facility with 8 grounded strips. We
currently have about 200 members about half of which are active competitors.
Check out www.candlewoodfencing.com or call Tom Ciccarone at 203-778-0707
    for info.

    Regards,
    Chris

Thanks, Chris. I have forwarded this information and the Web site URL to our
fencer's parents, and I am sure you will hear from them, once they move to
    Hartford.

I'll second that Candlewood is a great facility.

I used to live in Westchester County, NY and would drive the hour to fence
in Danbury once a week in addition to fencing at my home club.

Tom's a good guy. I think a junior could do far, far, worse.
