    Fencing in Europe

    Hi,

I was wondering if anybody could help me. Heading over to Europe in
    June, starting in
London and would like to buy some equipment there instead of bringing
    equipment with.
Anybody know if there is a equip store we could walk into in London?
Also, I will be in the Tusacany area in Italy. Any clubs in that area?
    Looking for contacts.

    Thanks
    Bigfish

    Good shops. Also Blades, http://freespace.virgin.net/blades.sports/

Wherever you choose, it's usually best to phone ahead first and check
they have stock in. They all seem to run out from time to time.

Britain is not the cheapest place to buy kit, though: if you are
travelling, eastern Europe is often considered good value.

Also, check out the club(s) where you're going to fence - they may have
kit to loan out, or to sell second-hand.

That's true. The exchange rate at the moment tends to make anything
    priced in sterling more expensive.

A basic allstar FIE mask is €97.41 (€113 with tax, but if
you live outside the EU you can get that back). Allstar UK sells it
for stg£77.93 (£91.57 including tax), which converts today to
    €112.11 (€131.74 with tax).

You're definitely better off waiting until you're in the eurozone. In
fact, with ultra-cheapo Ryanair flights, it can be better value to
head over to Paris or Milan for the day and pick up equipment there.
