Non Maraging FIE blades?

What is your opinion on non maraging FIE wepons? Is it worth paying extra for an FIE weapon if it isnt maraging? And do they last just as long?

Thanks

The test for a FIE blade is how many times it can be flexed and not break, whatever the type of steel it is. How it will work in the real world, noone can tell you for sure. They just came out. I would expect they will not be as stiff as a maraging blade does tend to be stiffer, but I have not had a chance to try them.

unbelieveably, whatIi would like more than a blade that won't break are wire that stay wired in a weapon. Weapons don't break as often as wires. I've fencing recently for 2 1/2 years only broke one blade; but I've unwired all my weapons, ALL of them. Every epee, every foil, all the wires break, and one broken blade. I fenced before for four years and had one broken non-fie blade; with probably wires or tips broken about 1/2 the time.

The worst part of competition is not competition, it's getting your materials ready. It becomes a pain in the neck. The other thing is I've noticed some people appear at the strip with a few weapons praying that they work, and they're still told to get another, then they have to run and scrounge up more. It's pretty bad. If maraging or fie was supposed to help out there, it hasn't done a good job.

A fencer should be able to go to a strip with 3 good working weapons; all wired nicely. Without scrounging around for cauliflower bands, or little screws for the tips.
