Array Preferences Do you use this section. Do you care? Want it to stay like this or should I put up a "classifieds" section? -

Array What would be the difference between "Trading Post" and "Classifieds?"
No matter which moniker you choose, keep the idea. Maybe fencing.net users just do not have a lot to sell right now. It is still a valuable resource, especially for novices who (rightfully so) do not trust everything listed in online autions. -

Array Check http://www.fencing101.com/classifieds for the other option. I just uploaded the script and tossed a couple of items up there. Nothing customized yet except that it calls the header and footer that are on the message board.

Array Actually, kids grow quite fast and I have a couple of excellent Adidas shoes. A pair of three black strips size US 4 and a pair of asymmetric (right handed) US 4 1/2. The black strips had some use but they are in excellent condition. New were $100. The asymmetrics are almost mint. Used in two competitions only. Original were $150. If we had a shoe exchange for kids, that would be quite a great service to the youth fencing community.
When we lived in Colorado, they had a great exchange at one of the Ski retailers (Colorado Ski & Golf). It worked great!!! Every year, you brought your old boots and skis, for a fee of ~ 30-40% of new (+ a one time fee to get into the exchange), you got an excellent used pair that was fitted to your size and ability. -

Array I like the classifieds better... - Epee is the Louis Vuitton bag of fencing: only the best can get it, and the rest of the masses must content themselves with cheap knockoffs (sabre, foil)
- To not recognize the power of the French grip is to be in denial

Array Yes, classifieds look better and, in my opinion, are better organized. ... without remorse for the past, confident in the present, and full of hope for the future, [d'artagnan] went to bed and slept the sleep of the brave.

Array Actually, one thing that would be nice with classifieds would be to allow someone to either remove it when the item(s) are sold or to automatically remove it after a certain period of time. It would make it easier if searching for a particular item.
Maybe it's already being done in the current system, I don't know. - Epee is the Louis Vuitton bag of fencing: only the best can get it, and the rest of the masses must content themselves with cheap knockoffs (sabre, foil)

Array The classifieds program will allow for that. Items auto expire after a set number of days. I just haven't coded that program so that it can use the forum username and password instead of requiring a separate user/pass for the classifieds.

Array I like the idea but how would one go about paying for the items? Will it be encrypted if using credit card? If someone rips you off then what avenues can you take to try and get restitution? There are alot of other questions but I think you get my drift. -

Array I would not handle the transactions. Just like any other classifieds or want ads section, this is for people to market what they've got left over or don't need anymore. It's up to the buyer and seller to make all the necessary arrangements for payment, etc.
I would recommend using PayPal for the transaction since they have a feedback/protection system built into their transaction process, but it's still caveat emptor.
So, other than the listing functionality there wouldn't be additional back-end goodies like escrow or transactions handled by fencing.net. (Don't have the budget for that type of programming/integration/insurance/headaches.)
Cheers,
