Wanted: College or club news

I periodically search for recent articles on fencing and I've noticed that only a few college teams regularly post news items.

I would love to see some more stories/articles on what is going on in the different clubs and college teams as well as reports on tournament results. We've just had sectionals, so each section should have something to report.

If you have stories to tell about your club, or other fencing news please post it here or email it to me. I'll make an effort to get some of those stories featured on the front page of the site. (It will make a nice switch from reporting on world cup or nac results).

Cheers,
Craig

At my other club they run a 24 hour fencing marathon, in which there has to be a couple fencing at every stage during those 24 hours. They've raised over £40000 for charity.

I didn't go to the one last year but I plan to go to the next one (2004). This piece of 'news' will probably be more useful then rather than now

Mississippi fencing

Oxford Fencing reports on fencing in North Mississippi.

The site has news, pictures, how-to articles, flash cards, results. Recently I've started including national and international news, to give local fencers a better idea of the world of fencing.

Feel free to swing by. There is some fun stuff:

- Our fencing float in the Christmas Parade.

- How to make/use a tennis ball target.

- We used fencing101.com's glossary to make online flash cards.

Bronco Fencing at Western Michigan University completed its third season as a USFA club and can finally boast its first two ranked fencers ever. We had over 45 people come out and begin to learn fencing of which about 15 finished the introductory lessons and now fence week in and week out. All of this is not much to brag about for most clubs but since we have no real coach and no club equipment (It is just fencers teaching fencers with our own equipment "for love of the game") We are quite thrilled with our results. For more information about our club visit our website

National Collegiate Club Fencing

I've seen some posts leading up to this year's event, maybe someone snuck the results in somewhere too. For those of you not familiar with recent happeneings, back in early April the first National Collegiate Club Fencing Championships were held in Gainesville, FL and served as the kickoff for a new organization of collegiat fencing clubs. There is now a website for this forming org. If your club is interested take a few moments to get your contact info in our database. Cheers! http://expert.ics.purdue.edu/~fencing/nccfa/

Tulane University News

I thought I would post the official & Unofficial News of the club at Tulane University.

We are always looking for a coach to take my place. The salary is $0 but you get to lend them your equipment at Tournaments Funny we never get any applicants.

We traveled & traveled & traveled:

20 tournaments: 8 out of town, 12 local
79 Events
30 Different Competitors
335 Event Entries

20 Gold Medals
17 Silver Medals
27 Bronze Medals
5 “Best Women”
76 Top 8 Finishers (excluding 1-3)
18 Classification Increases

Membership peaked in December with 65 members! Not too bad for a beer and pretzels club!

We qualified teams in all weapons for nationals and are sending men's and women's epee and foil teams as well as a few individuals.

We are losing a couple of our best fencers and will truly miss Jakob Anderson and Katinka Vigh.

Former club Member Tim Clark is training in Hungary and took third place at the tournament in Finland.

Four club members are heading to Hungary later this summer to train for two weeks with Antal Solti and András Szabó.

Former Tulane PE instructor and club mentor Dr. Eugene Hamori is being inducted into the hall of fame this year.

And off course we had dinners, picnics, parties and a crawfish boil. We spent all our money and then some!

Next year should be another banner year. If you are in New Orleans feel free to drop in and fence.

Cheers

GrimRiposter will become famous soon enoughGrimRiposter will become famous soon enough
Last weekend (6/14), the first Crossroads Open was held in Des Moines. This was a youth tournament sponsored by the Des Moines Fencing Club (Des Moines, IA), the Lincoln Fencing Club (Lincoln, NE) and the Twin Cities Fencing Club (Minneapolis, MN). We got the name from the fact that Des Moines sits on the intersection of I-80 and I-35. Easy to get to from a lot of different places.

We had pretty good turn out, we gave the kids lots of fencing opportunities and everyone had a great time. We got a lot of good response from the parents on the ease of getting to and around Des Moines and on our tournament facilities.

I've posted the results out to our site at http://home.mchsi.com/~dmfc if anyone is interested. We're going to try to do another one this fall, as part of the feedback we received was that June may not be the best month for this! Something about family vacation or such. I'll post more information as we find a date.
