I am trying to make an electronic scoring box. I run a small club here in Montreal and we can not afford the 450$ or so $$ for one off the shelf. I think that I can make them for well under 100$ And if so may well sell them at a very small/no profit just to help other clubs like my own.
I have looked up the rules on the FIE site but they are a bit unclear to me.(my French is not that hot either) Do most boxes run on 12V, that is there 12V between the terminals on the box that you plug into the real. Also, do you know of anyone how has/is working on a project like this. I would love to get some circuit ideas from some one who has already done this or would be happy to shear my ideas as long as it is with a non-profit setup like myself.
Save yourself the aggrevation, and go to www.favero.com and look at the Favero 01 wall mount. You can do the wiring for floor cords and a 12VDC hook up yourself. Since the $ sucks compared to the Euro at this point, it may be a little pricier than the $200 or so I paid last year, but beats the hell out of the $400 for anything you can get on this side of the pond. IMHO

Some put out other voltages but the maximum is 12 volts. The circuitry has become much more simple. Basically all you have to do is have 7 inputs (3 to each fencer and one to the piste) and 6 outputs (2 white, colored, ground). So the circuity isn't much. If you can program the chips that is where the modern circruity design is.

Knowing the rule book by heart means nothing, if you don't understand the rules.
Anybody who has a reasonable estimate of what an 1-weapon (epee only) box would cost? Letīs assume that it is made from scratch by some electronics person, and that it is only intended for club training use. Would all the necessary parts be available in a Radio Shack-like shop?
