Hotel for Summer Nationals

The Wellesley Inn located at 1001 South IH35, Austin is 1.3 miles from the Venue. Telephone number is (512) 326-0100. This is an extended stay hotel. The rates are very good. Mention Summer Nationals. One will get a better rate by calling them direct. Sure beats paying rate at host hotel.

I'm going! I will be in the U16 and Y14 women's epee, and am really excited to go, especially with just 4 months experience. (I qualified by dumb luck- no one showed!)

Going to my first Summer National evers... fencing Div 3 MF, Div 3 MS, Vet 40 MF, and Vet 40 MS. Sounds like a lot, but my original plan was to fence MF and Vet 40 MF - USFA had the events 6 days apart! So, to avoid spending too many days just eating BBQ, drinking beer, and listening to good live music, I decided to fence sabre as well (not that I have anything against sabre, I just didn't think I would have my electric equipment in time for the divisional qualifiers...) Now I have 2 days of fencing, 2 days rest, and 2 more days of fencing! Is this great, or WHAT???

Since the kids have like 9 events from start to finish, I'll be there for Veteran's MS...look for me by the giant bottle of Ibuprofen.

Divisions + Rankings...

A, B,C,D,E, is already a skills level. How much 'more special' can fencing get? It's already highly specialized with many categories, and so forth. We had an event a while back that had 75 participants and nearly half went home with an award. Every age bracket was recognized in increments of 9 years, for every weapon. It's precisely what the olympic committee objects to, and also, conincidentially what's wrong with government. If I didn't have to categorize everyone, maybe they would have finished the program.

For example: if an adult can fence with a kid, then the kids can fence each other. Have all U16 fence one category. Then 16.1 and up to 39 are another category; then 40-60 one more category, and anything after 60 is a miracle. The rankings are already there: U,E,D,C,B,A. Then according to their ranks fencers are scheduled into divisions. It's sensible, but alittle too detailed.

I JUST REALIZED, I'VE LOST MY MIND, I'M COMPLETELY IMMERSED IN FENCING TO THE POINT WHERE I ALMOST NEVER THINK OF ANYTHING ELSE AND I RANT....I'm going to stop.
