Video of a lunge
Does anyone know of a place to get a video of a nice, sporty lunge? I'm not talking about the proper form lunges I am taught at my club. I am refering to the fearful competitive sport lunges. I am not looking to buy any video cassette by the way.

My favorite lunger is Alexander Romankov (soviet / russian fencer). He has a classic guard, and even as an "old" guy his hand, distance, and lunge are something amazing.
Watching Romankov fence was very formative for my own fencing technique. If you look through the FencingFootage.com website you can find the 88 Seoul Olympics; there is also some early 80's team World Championships that include Romankov beating young Germans. I have all those videos, they're great.
BTW -- I'm loosely associated with the FencingFootage.com website, so I'm biased towards them.

Follow-up: FencingFootage.com has QuickTime clips of the videos. I'm sure there's some Romankov action.

Romankov is actually from Belarus, not Russia (though he competed when both were part of the USSR). While now an even older "old guy", Romankov occasionally travels to the US to give fencing seminars and he's still amazing to watch. I know some of the seminars were videoed and even transfered to DVD but I don't believe those videos are publically available.
There's a small sample video that includes Romankov on fencingfootage.com's site. Check out http://www.fencingfootage.com/wch_06.shtml
and then search down the page for "Romankov's stuttering clown attack"

Interesting about Romankov being from Belarus... My old coach was a Belorussian, and a contemporary of Romankov's, and told me a little about Romankov's training and what it was like fencing him.
Then, for one night, for 5 minutes only in the ~9 years I knew him, my coach complained about the Soviet system. You could be a hot-sh*t fencer, but if you weren't a pure Russian, you were in for a lot of prejudice, e.g. not getting picked for the Soviet team. I guess I took that to mean Romankov was Russian; probably he was just an exception to the rule.

Actually, you can't.
The only 88 Olympics you can find there are the women's foil events.

Yes... unfortunately since my last post on this thread I've realized that FencingFootage doesn't have the 88 MF individuals Olympics. That was something from my personal library, but I've since loaned/lost/gave it away (not knowing how rare it is).
If ANYBODY has the 88 MF Individual Olympics, let me know!! I'll DVD it for ya!

I'm pretty sure I've seen a video clip of (epéeist) Laura Flessel-Colovic lunging somewhere around here.
She has a mighty fast and looooong lunge! Similar Threads -
