Jr. Worlds - China

The Chinese results - again - at the intl level are excellent.

Can anyone describe to me their dominate style, tactics or approach, ideally by weapon?

What has accounted for their fast rise in the sport? Have they imported E. European/Russian coaching? Hv they put exceptional emphasis on conditioning and/or footwork?

haggis will become famous soon enough
Don't know about how they've developed recently but they're not really a totally new phenomenon. A Chinese fencer won the men's foil at the Junior Worlds in 1989.

Their style isn't as clear cut as some nations, for example Germany or France, and I'd probably take a guess at some Russian influence. At last year's Juniors the Chinese women's sabreurs seemed to me to be much more athletic and dynamic that most other nations.

As for how they train, I've no information and since they hardly appear at World Cups and nobody I know speaks Chinese to ask them, they'll probably keep turning up at the World championships, producing great results and then disappearing again til the next ones.

Anyone here spent any time fencing in China?

js: bonjour

Bonjour js, comment allez vous? my former coach is chinese by decent. we had a talk about genetic disposition and athletic performance, we thought about muscle-response; fast twitch, slow twitch, medium twitch, but it crosses all ethnic backgrounds especially now with more cosmopolitan people in the world. Other than that i would love to train in china, just for fun, for a year, to see what's happening. There seems to be an unending fascination with China. Does anyone remember the introduction of their ballet to american audiences? Wouldn't it be great to invite a great Chinese foilist to the United States to coach some teams as a "guest?"
