Re: Hungarian training camp

I will personally vouch for thiis camp. I attended in 1999 and it was
everything listed and more. The housing was reasonable. I must say that the
food was not the high point but it was quite good and there are excellent
restaurants in Szombathely, within five blocks. And there is a delightful
little bakery within one block of the site.

The schedule is good with good instructors and excellent orgainization. I
signed up for individual daily lessons. These were about 30 minutes long with a
reasonable charge of $10. I was fortunate to have one of the best Sabre coaches
in Hungary but I am not sure if I saw his name on the list for this year.

Another point. I was there with a group of American young fencers from as young
as 12-13 through teenagers. I felt it was quite safe when the older teenagers
went in a group into center city.

I attended in 1999 because it was the week before the Veterans World
Championships about 100 km away in Siofolk. The camp certainly was worthwhile
because I went undefeated in a 7 fencer pool and was second seed into the DE's.
It is not the camp's fault that I then lost my first DE to that wily old fox,
Jim Campoli. I only wish this year's camp was the week before this year's World
Championships in Limoges.

By the way, the 2004 Veterans World Championships will be in in Krems, Austria.

Again, a very worthwhile camp for 13 to 67 year olds.
