Carnegie Mellon Fencing Club
2003 Ninth Annual Holy Grail Championships
Saturday, May 10, 2003
One of this year's largest team events in Pennsylvania will be held on
Saturday, May 10, 2003. Come take a one-day break from final exams and
stab people with swords!
Events are as follows: Mixed Foil, Mixed Epee and Mixed Saber.
Registration ends at 10:30 A.M. Fencing will start promptly thereafter.
(The gym opens at 10:00 A.M.)
Fencing will be in the same gym as last year: Skibo Gymnasium on Tech
St, CMU Campus (2nd floor). Directions are available on our website
(
http://www.andrew.cmu.edu/~fencing).
Each event will consist of two rounds: one of round-robin pools for seeding
purposes and one direct elimination round. Each bout will follow the the
USFA relay 45-touch bout format. The individual members of the winning team
of each event will be presented with medals to signify their achievements.
The organization which accumulates the highest point totals will claim
possession of the Holy Grail trophy for one year, and will be required to
defend its title at the 2004 championships!
Teams are composed of three fencers each with an optional alternate.
Composite teams from more than one organization are allowed in those
cases in which a organization cannot field a complete team on its own.
Double entering is prohibited.
Entry fees will be $25 per team of 3 (or 4) fencers, payable at the
door. Pre-registration is optional, but highly appreciated: e-mail
fencing@andrew.cmu.edu to let us know how many teams in each weapon
your organization will be bringing.
We ask that each participating club bring a working set of scoring
equipment (machine, reels, floor cords, etc.), if available. We've
arranged to borrow more strip setups in this year to avoid the delays
we had last year, but help in this area is still appreciated.
If you need directions to the event or have other questions, please contact
us either by phone or e-mail. More information about the tournament is
available on our club's web page (address below).
Feel free to forward this advertisement to anyone who might be interested
in competing. Any omissions from this mailing list - we intend to send
it to any human being, or member of another species, who knows what a
sword is - are entirely accidental.

Thanks!
