Cheap prices for Austin TX

Orbitz: $261 from SJC to AUS RT, non-stop.
Hotwire: $293 for nine days at hotel 1.52 miles from venue (can almost walk, but rather not, in that hot Austin sun).

Now, working on a cheap rental car. If I can get $15/day for rental car, I'm set.

$293 for nine days is just under $33/day. Not bad. I can then afford to rent a car and go out somewheres looking around and such.

'Course, I'll be refereeing the days I'm not fencing and that'll probably take up all my time. So I probably won't be able to go anywhere in the evenings.

Costs around the same from Philadelphia! Though I'm going to use frequent flyer miles this time, I think.

There are a bunch of hotels along I-35 within minutes from the convention center. Those of you who came for '00 know that there is pretty good parking near the convention center. Traffic in I-35 can get ugly, specially in rush hour time. The convention center is about 3 blocks from I-35 and near downtown.

For me, I just need to drive 81 miles to my sister's!

frequent flyer miles

with all the trips i've taken in the past 10 years, i should have enough points to get everything paid for forever, i've just never been able to keep up with those things, 5 international flights and at least 6 domestic flights, it's ridiculose. austin is far away for me, i like doing things last moment, how long would it take to drive from california to austin in a nice air-conditioned rental van with several people? you could split the costs and avoid the airports all together?
