My mistake, but I had definitely seen Alicja Kryczalo in the FIE rankings for foil. That's why it was familiar. | What I mean is Division I schools and available scholarships.
A good number of schools are importing talent. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. I think it helps raise the standard of fencing in the NCAA, but it cuts down on available scholarships for domestic talent.
PSU for instance has had quite a few foreign born épéeists on their men's team in the past few years (Swedes and Poles). They are excellent fencers but it kind of leaves US fencers in the cold. Like I said, there are two sides to this and both sides have plusses and minuses.
Comments?

| Ah, I see. Yes, it's a double-edged sword. Then again, I'd known about this for a while, if for no other reason than the fact that I personally know three Canadians who had full scholarships to ND in the past years (two for men's sabre, one for women's foil or epee).
I didn't know they recruited in Europe too, but it makes total sense. |

| Gruchala is better looking, but Youcheva is better as a fencer. And she's left-handed. Gotta go with the true hand.

| [I'm probably gonna crucified for this but...]
It's so unfair! There seems to be plenty of babes in other national teams but not that many over here in the UK.
Can't speak for what the girls think of the boys but fencing in the UK doesn't seem to attract that many 'babes'. |

| Hhhmmmm, Gav, hope my husband will disagree with you there (he has a fever at the moment, must explain why he hasn't lept in already... 8-) ).
Probably a bad time to voice your opinion - especially if you are anywhere near Edinburgh this weekend (since most of the country's senior women fencers will be there... :-)).

| Helena Elinder Hi!
Helena Elinder is a former member of the Sw WE team, she got a individual World Championship bronze a few years ago. She is so increbibly good-looking so that the papers put her, a fencer, on the first page when they printed "previews to the 2000 Olympics".
Have a ncie time!

| Back in the day, Jujie Luan was incredibly gorgeous. Movie star looks. She still looks amazing, in her FORTIES.
And Gav, I think the girl modelling the uniform on the main leon paul page is pretty cute, though the picture's small. I think it's Elois Smith.
For the guys, I'd have to say one of the German Bauers, James Williams, Mathieu Gourdain, etc. These are all sabre fencers. |

| how come these polish girls don't look like the mousy, pasty, chubby Polish people I know? (I am allowed to say that because I am half Polish!) It seems like the women need to strike back with some nominations of their own! I'll push out Ukrainian fencer Vladimir?Volodimyr Lukashenko, since Ukrainain fencers are the only area I have expertise in I only have one pic, it is kind of bad but I think he is kind of like a Slavic Jed Dupree. Too bad he is hyper religious and already married at 21: ) Third from left http://sez.netdot.net/sashatrek/kiev...s/Image16.html
I am betting that Podzniakov is hot, I don't know what he looks like. But you probably have to be good looking if you are such a bad *** saber fencer. In terms of generalizations I think that male saber fencers are the hottest ( I am going to get so much backlash from that!) as well as female foil fencers. |

| Podzniakov is NOT hot. He looks like a businessman, even when he's in the middle of a bout.
Luigi Tarantino looks as if he thinks he's hot.

| Tarantino might have been hot several years ago. Now he looks like he took to pasta a bit too greedily. Both Poz and Charikov look similar, and very "international finance" like.

| What's wrong with "business"/"international finance" like? A mixture of that with athleticism sounds rather good... :-) (or maybe I am just getting old...)

| I didn't imply anything wrong or right with the "international finance" look. I'm just saying that that's how those two look.
