Directly from Uhlmann is where we got parts when we needed them.

Thanks, I got a lot of useful stuff from their site. They had a price list and "blow up" of their reel. I found the german allstar site www.allstar.de but I could find the same level of detail. I just emailed allstar-usa to see if they have anything.

Fechtsport Langenkamp should also be able to get you parts for both
Uhlmann and Allstar reels.

In the U.S., Blue Gauntlet provides the Uhlmann reels used at NACs and can get all the parts for them (some might need to be back-ordered), although for a higher list price than from Langenkamp. If it's a small item that they have in stock the higher mark-up may be less costly than the shipping from Europe.

Also, some of the little bits are standard metric parts that you ought to be able to find at a well-stocked hardware store (e.g., the screws are metric 3-mm thread). Was it any particular part that was needed?

ARMORER-
Thanks, I'll try Blue Gauntlet. Who's good for Allstar parts in the USA? I'm looking for a brush set and repair manuals if they exist. I've just started fixing these things and have found that wd-40 improves the ground continuity because it improves conductance through the ball bearing. Do see any concerns? Also, should the allstar brush contacts be dry? I think someone oiled the unit I'm working on now and the ohms vary too much.

You'll probably have better luck going through Langenkamp for
Allstar reel parts than the U.S. Allstar distrubutor (Allstar USA).

You want to have a little bit of oil down in the contact post- the
factory stickers inside the Allstar reels I have recommend putting a drop down the center of the post monthly. Using a (plastic-safe)
contact cleaner (you can get some at a Radio Shack) to clean them periodically is also needed. If they've not been cleaned in a long time, there may be a thin (and not visible to the eye) layer of corrosion built up which will need to be removed by gently sanding the contacts with emery paper.

The travel screw which holds the contact post in place in the center of the spool also needs to be properly adjusted. If it's not tightened down far enough, you'll get intermittent contacts through the A and B lines. You don't want it so tight that the post doesn't have any play as the spool rotates, though.

Allstar Parts

Dave,

Believe it or not, I finally got around to getting the rotary contacts for the red allstar reels. They were around $25 per set.

They actually weren't hard to deal with. I did most of it by email and called them to give my credit card info.

They have a new website at www.allstar.de and it's quite good.

Regards,

Mike
